Took the Halrey on the ocean yesterday to run and use up old gas and see how she does. Temps were good, motors sounded fine, over-all good run except the power steering was whining a bit.

On lake Boca I put in the last half quart of power sterring fluid I had on the boat, fired it up after dinner and a swim and everything seemed okay until half way home on the ICWW I lost all steering. Arnesons use hoses outside the boat with rams for trim and rams for steering. No leak inside the engine room or behind the steering pump so must be in the water.

With yachts coming in both directions and unable to steer with throttles only in the current and 2-4 foot wakes for passing idiots I decided to limp home by putting a quart of oil in the power steering unit. By the time I got home an hour later I had lost steering again so the leak must be significant.

QUESTIONS:
1) Did I screw up by putting in the oil?
2) Will I need to purge the whole system once I plug the leak or what?
3) I assume one of my hoses got loose (I replaced every hose when I redid the boat a year ago). Is this common? Will take a scuba dive this week to find out. Probably have to pull her out again.
