I was at acocktail party and a gent was telling me he saw a device at the boat show that kept the bottom clean without bottom paint:

It was a plastic bag that had an inflated edge and floated on top of the water. The idea was to drive your boat onto it (it sinks when needed)and then put freshw ater or chlorine tablets or something in the water around your hull that stopped crap from growing.

Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Tried surfing - nothing yet.
 
two issues... must be a PIB to setup and store... and most importantly i doubt you're allowed to dump chlorinated water in the waterways, are you ?
 
I've heard of it...pretty much a bladder that surrounds your boat like a containment shield...never seen it used, though, and I'd be interested on the water treatment issue that Pascal brings up.
 
apparently just throwing tap water in is enough to change salination and keep criters at bay. Of course if it takes 1000 gallons each time it would be a big PITA and cost $$$. Company names or links anyone?
 
yeah, I also how legal it is when water restrictions are in effect ?

not a bad idea though... wonder how much it cost...

I pass one every once in a while around here, the boats still have green slime growing on them just not the barnacles. every time I go by I feel bad because a small 6 in wake runs salt water into it.
 
Thanks for the link - interesting. I'll get quotes and copy you guys...does seem a bit easier to deal with than I thought it was going to be (see video).
 
My neighbor a couple of houses down has one for his boat. It looks like a plastic swimming pool with floats built into three sides. One end drops down and you drive or pull the boat in it and then raise it back up. The boat is then floating in a pool. It has a pool chlorine feeder that you put the chlorine tablets in. I think it has a small pump to move the water around. He has a 38 foot center console with twin outboards so they are raised don't know if inboards will work with it. His is rectangular and does not tie to the boat. I can find out more about it if you would like.
