My 18YO Avon needs to be replace and the local dealer ive worked with before is offering the Highfield aluminum RIB line.

Anybody know the good, bad or Ugly on these??

We almost bought an aluminum rib. They need far less HP and are light. Look out for lift rings in the hull. They are right where your toes want to be. That killed the deal for us. Otherwise, if you get one, never paint the bottom. It seems there are reactions between the paint and the aluminum. Since you will store it aboard they are a great option. But check the ride in chop. Given they are light they may pop more.

"Old style" copper ( or tin ) based paint would be a no-no, however there are formulations designed for aluminum hulls.

One such is Interlux Trilux 33 Antifouling Bottom Paint. There are others. No experience with them however...

Thx Guys

They have models that have a raised floor above the hull that just about doubles the weight of the boat, its about 400lbs with options + about 150lb for my Honda 25
Any heaver & my 600lb Davit will be complaining! Its about the same weight as the Avon im replacing
Plus im no featherweight!

As it will be living on the bridge deck im not thinking of painting it.
It has a ‘High tensile chromated & powder coated aluminum hull’.
Im guessing as long as I don’t gouge the hull too much hitting crap while beaching it it will stay clean for years
