I got a status call from the company rebuilding the outdrive. Some parts are in but still waiting on a gear set. And it will be July 4th in a few days. I see no alternative to waiting. Its not like one can go to NAPA and pick up parts that are made by several manufacturers. I believe only Volvo Penta makes this gear set.
There is an epic shortage of material and capacity in manufacturing right now. Raw material inventories are are 2 months or less, while lead times for replacement is 4 months or more. People don't want to work, so you can't add bodies to increase capacity. Heck, we are even seeing several days to get a truck in to pick up shipments. It's FUBAR. Sorry you boating season is caught up in it.
Yes. Many things back ordered and empty shelves. I waited three week for some Awlwood... Fireboy automatic bottles are back ordered for weeks. It s nuts. Also waiting for some back ordered Onan parts, luckily they re just spares.
Then there are chips. A car dealer nearby usually has a yard stocked with new vehicles. They have 6 new vehicles. There are no chips to complete the builds.
Yup, it is hitting the commercial side of things too. We have an Air Turbine Starter in our shop that has been waiting for bearings to come in for 8 months...We usually turn them in less than 45 days. Fortunately we have enough piece part stock to keep most repairs on time, but this one is an oddball, so they are screwed.
I guess the Germans do it better. We recently wrapped up a full inframe on a MTU 16V2000 and didn’t get any delays. A few parts had to be shipped from Germany but we didn’t loose a single day.
