NJ just locked down movement. I was going to visit my boat today in preparation for removing the shrink wrap and considering which springtime chore I was going to start. I usually start with a scrub-down and waxing. But now with the lockdown, that isn't going to happen. I'm wondering if the season will even get underway this year. Has anyone else considered this or am I too early to think this might happen?
Anyone else wondering if this year will be a wash?

I was thinking same thing yesterday - should have been outside getting the boats ready, but didn’t bother. If you are only allowed to leave your house for food and pharmacy, hard to imagine getting much boating in.
Went for a nice long walk yesterday to get some exercise, fresh air and take care of the beautiful weather we had here.
Cold today, and sketchy forecast for the beginning of the week. But if weather improves at the end of the week I’m going to unwrap the boat and get started on polish, wax and bottom paint.
It’s outdoors, exercise, and not likely to have others all that close to me at the boatyard.

I bought a new to me used boat from local marina. Supposed to splash 4/1. That’s off til 4/3 at earliest. I went on demo back in mid February. I said I didn’t want the boat til 4/1. Of all things I was afraid of a late snow! I have memories of my dad having our then brand new boat in the water st Patrick’s day 1981 only to have a Easter blizzard . While the shutdown makes sense, it’s not sustainable. I imagine I will be in sooner than later as the underground economy grows. Stay safe all

As a full time liveaboard I am unwrapping next week. I am in my winter slip on a dock I share with 7 boats.
April 1st I will turn on the power and water to my summer slip. It is a condo dock and I will be the only one there for 2 weeks.

The place where I winter is an open boatyard so no problem getting in to work on the boat at anytime.
If I unwrap this coming weekend I probably wouldn’t be finished with everything until nearer to the second week in April now if weather cooperates.
Hoping the boatyard guys will be free to launch boats by then.
im thinking by this time next week we should see some action at the yards. Be it allowed or not. Guys want to eat. So while it may not be a beehive of activity, I think you will see guys moving boats around yards and splashing whoever is ready.
I disagree and fortunately so does HRBYCA and most of the marinas around us, including yours. Marinas are essential to transportation.
On another note: My slip is ready and I expect to solo launch my CC when striped bass season opens April 1st. That sounds reasonable.

I am so grateful I sold my 40' in NY last September. One less asset to worry about.
I am so grateful I am in Florida and my 28' boat is available to me when I want.
My concern is fuel as I am down to a 1/3 tank, which can last as long as I don't cruise and just anchor and fish or float.
I do think you guys up North won't have a season this year and if you do some marina's will be shutdown.
Gonna me interesting to see the Mask tan lines!

Dave - who'd you use to sell the boat? I'm afraid ours really needs a new owner this season. . . .
It's looking more like I will call it quits for the season. I'm not splashing it just so it won't be used and have to winterize/wrap again. If things get rapidly better, history has shown that I can prep my boat (wax, paint, minimal maintenance) in three trips. As long as NJ does not enter a mandatory shelter in place policy, I will go down and add additional stabil to the fuel and repair any voids in the shrink wrap. I'll still end up paying for summer storage and will likely donate a portion of my summer slip fee to my marina (different marina for winter storage and summer slip). I'm not the only one and I know it will be hard on them to lose business and fuel sales.

My dock is on my own private property so I can social distance safely in the fresh air at my dock anytime. I guess that’s a big advantage over being in a traditional marina.
We primarily spend our away from the dock boating days on the hook, so no problem social distancing there either.
If this is over before the end of the season we can get in some overnight trips, if not, we can still social distance safely on the boat all season instead of being restricted to the house and backyard.

Now more than ever, I want the boat in. My daughter is 10 and an only child. This has been brutal on her. We locked her down early and seeing groups of kids riding bikes didn’t help her disposition! There is only so much FaceTime the kids can do. We did the “virtual sleepovers” but that ran it’s course too. We keep the boat at the house so no crowds. Looking forward to bass, hopefully find flounder and go from there. At least boating is normal to her and she needs normal more than ever.
