Anyone from Massapequa?

BJL, we saw something on South Bay Ave on the water that we really liked.
 
Nice block and short distance to the bay. We lived on Jackson Place off Forest Ave. That area, Massapequa Shores, is a lovely area.
 
I like the short distance to the bay, and closeness to the 135 which makes my commute west easier in the morning.

You don't want to be on "G" dock, it boarders the school yard, kids jump the fence and break into boats. Mostly little punks looking for booze. Also, most equipment stolen is on that dock. If you come into the marina you will see what I mean. It is at the far end by itself here is a picture on where the slips are

G dock doesnt bother me at all. Id take the electronics off the boat anyways. Its a 17footer, what could they possibly take? Id put up a wireless security camera anyways (if they are allowed)

Im not picky about my slip. Give me the slip that no one else wants and ill make it work, thats how I roll..
 
G dock has gotten better.
Its a nice quiet dead end and the security patrols it alot.
I think its worse in the winter when noone is around and boats are on land there which I assume you won't have a issue with if you take it home.
 
Matt and all that are considering buying here, just a heads up and not a sales pitch. The AYC (present management for the last three years) have done more improvements to this place in the last 3 years than the management of 20 years before them. Prices of rentals and ownership have been flat for the last 5 or so years, you can expect that to change very soon, another words, this is a good time to buy. Slips are all different prices here, price is dependent on location, and beam. The primo slips for size (beam) are on S dock. D dock has the best real estate as far as views, just majestic. A dock is a quiet dock with some healthy beams there as well. B dock and C dock is close to the pool, playground and bathrooms. D dock also has their own bathrooms and showers. We now have a volley ball court, bocci court , putting green and horseshoe court.

Really nice place and is the best deal in town

J,K,L are better docks for your boat Matt, floating docks and docks that are for boats your size.
 
Thanks for the info thus far. Its something to definitely consider. I just sold a piece of land where I keep the trailer during the summer, and the boat and trailer during the winter, so AYC seems to be the best place so far. I am also looking at treasure island, though you cannot but, you rent. The amenities at AYC are cool, though I would never use them. Maybe the bathrooms but I wouldnt use the pool, tennis courts, etc.

Im assuming J,K,L docks are just past H dock, but before the 1 on the map....?

I was in the same position many years ago (late 80's) up in Bellmore. The ride out was a killer.
The place I was in before my current slip was so far north in Lindenhurst that I was literally the next to last boat before Montauk Highway on the west side of the canal. It was a good place, but the ride was murder.
Now I am very close to the bay and love it.

Probably doesn't matter much with a small boat, but watch out for the water in Treasure Island.
I went in there many years ago for a slip and learned that some of those docks have hardly any water at low tide. That was a long time ago, but about a year or so ago I ran in to a guy I used to work with who docks there. I asked him if things had changed, and he told me that you still have to watch out and it took him a few years to get moved to a better dock.
It is in a good location for heading west though. Heading east is another story.
If you are interested in that area there might be a better option.
Sometimes we go to Catfish Max by boat and before we reach the restaurant there is what looks like a small boatyard south of there. I don't know anything about it, but it looks to be in a nice spot.
Being right off the end of the SOB is a nice plus too!

Listen Guys,
Denise and I and I think Dave and Ginny will be hanging out at the dock Saturday, I have a 5oth birthday party I need to go to Saturday night in Massapequa,Then will be heading to watch hill on Sunday for the day. If you guys want to stop down on Saturday, would be more than happy to give you the lay of the land. I am at D55 and Dave is a few boats down from me.

Talking in person and giving you numbers is better than posting here. I have been involved with the AYC since 2001, owned my first slip in 2002, NO BS here, will tell you the good and the bad, the good far outweighs the bad.
I own two slips, one I rent and the other I berth at, bottom line is my slip for my boat costs nothing, the rental pay for that slip and an additional $1,200.00 in my pocket. The appreciation of what I can sell the slip(s) for is in excess of 40k.

Just saying, that the only thing that makes me money related to boating is my slips :)

Michael, let me know if we can help in any other way. You are looking at a great spot in Massapequa, which makes your commute and boating that much easier. The Harbor Green canal is minutes from the bay. Biltmore is faster access but more 5mph. I have been boating in Massapequa for my whole life. Love it. Best of luck.
 
Holy Grail, thanks for all the advice even the bit of hijacking about AYC has actually been helpful so if it's a route we consider as well less questions to ask about their. We're seeing a few more houses this week, then it's time to start narrowing down and make offers. Now if only I could find a house on the water with a 3 car garage and minutes to the bay in the price range we'd really be all set.

If you want a house like that under a million you better go further east!
