At Pier 39 for the weekend

Docking is no problem there, but there is a LOT of surge. Most people add a small tire to their docklines to act as a snubber for the surge. Try to run long line spring lines to position the boat and it shouldn't be too bad. We were there over thanksgiving and had no snubbers and had no problems. You'll notice the sea lions during the day, but they quiet down in the evening. There is a security person stationed on the docks during daylight hours to keep the sea lions from encroaching on the docks. Sometimes at night they'll climb up on them and sleep. My son and I had to scare on off so that we could pass by to walk the dog. He complained a little but moved without incident. We've always enjoyed visiting Pier 39, please post a report when you return.

I've docked a boat there, but I have visited a boat while it was in a slip there. The surge caused it to be difficult to board and/or disembark the boat. I was glad I was sober! I think if one were tipsy, seasickness might ensue. Or, worse, one might fall overboard. I had to carefully time my stepping on/off with the surging.
While I was visiting on the boat, I enjoyed the added motion on the boat. But that is just me!
