Walter asked for details about the AC trip so I thought I would post in case anyone else was interested in joining us.

Right now, the only firm reservation we have is for Trump Farley Marina Thursday August 7 to Sunday August 10. My wife and I have been considering a stop on the way home in Point Pleasant for a night or two but there are no firm plans.

Anyone wishing to join us is more than welcome. We can meet up in AC or rendezvous somewhere near Ambrose light if you prefer to travel together. Anyone coming from FI inlet, that would not be your most direct route, but never puts you out of sight of land...:)
 
I want to see Walter get his Admiral out in the ocean for a few hours!

Just kidding.

The Admiral has the final go or no-go decision based on the marine forecast. If it is too rough before we leave to go, we cancel or delay a day. If it gets rough while we are there, we stay over. We start watching the forecast a week ahead. If it is borderline, we'll wait till the last minute and cancel (lose 1 day fee) rather than be miserable for a few hours.

You can always duck in the Manasquan inlet if the weather turns on you and then cruise down the ICW to AC from there. It's a little longer, but well marked, and a nice ride. From Manasquan inlet to Farley's State Marina is about 3 1/2 - 4 hourd if you cruise at 20 +/- knots. The trickiest part would be the Point Pleasant Canal, which, isn't so bad anymore since they replaced both bridges. It still gets a little turbulant, but nothing like it used to be. If you stayed outside, the trip would be about 3 +/- hours at 20 +/- knots from the Manasquan Inlet.

Come see us, we have chated on the SOC for years, and remember I sold your boat and you do owe me :), I tell that story all the time, How I strung along that buyer, kept raising the price, then said I am not selling. Did that guy ever say, "He was such a dick", I know I would, if the situation was reversed.

Also,
I told Current Sea, all about your boat and what a slam dunk it would be to buy it, he may be joining me on the trip, so maybe I will sell your present boat also :)

I am torn between that boat and a piece of waterfront land in Florida. Tought choice but something tells me the Florida land may have more future potential value. Admiral wants the boat, which is great but she really has no clue of the total cost. I want both but I ain't made of money. We will see! As for the AC trip, I am on the fence but maybe. Walter, if you tow me, I am in!!!
 
Bring a water safety cert. or stay home. NJ doesn't want uneducated boaters! ;)
 
Oh sh-t forgot about that, need to find a local school, give him a few hundred and give me my certificate. :)
 
If you direct course from FI Inlet to the trump marina, how many nautical miles is it?
 
Just over 94nm from FI inlet to Absecon inlet on a fairly direct route. You would add some to that if you were to head west first.
 
Mark, as we spoke about when you visited Rob’s favorite place, the LIYC, BillyK and I are possibly interested. However, I may have a problem with the admirals new job work schedule for that week. Also, we are taking our 10 day trip beginning 7/12, So she is are going to see where we stand on getting more time off. Also by the time we figure this out we may be SOL on reservations. I really want to go, never been west of Jones Beach. We always head east.

If we do get caught up in NJ, I do have a USPS boater safety card. [:-snooty]
 
94nm at 21 knots is close to 5 hours. Long run even on the bee-line!

For me it is about a 4.5 hour run from the VZ Bridge at 20knts (88.5nm). From my dock, it becomes a 6-6.5 hour trip total. Since we plan the departure around time of day and not tide, with my luck that usually means I am running against the current in the East River.

Brad, you and Billy are welcome to join if you can (and anyone else). I have no idea whether the fuel situation will keep boats home but this is the same time we went last year and the marina was not full then.
 
I am curious if we all chipped in and filled one boat and let that boat tow all the other boats, would we save any fuel?

I bet a viable business in the future will be ships that hold boats. You drive your boat in, you live, sleep and eat on your boat as if your docked in a marina. The ship gets offshore of some place like Atlantic City and everyone unloads and goes under their own power into the marina, the big ship stays anchored off shore. Sort of like a cruise for boats!
