Is it possible to change the raw water impeller without removing the pump from the toilet??? What part number for this little project. Sorry to disturb you Vic, I know this is your afternoon nap time:):):)

Rick - sorry to say, both short and long answer - "no." The pump must be removed from the rest of the toilet in order to change the impeller. However, neither the pumps nor the replacement impellers are available any longer.

The impeller-type intake pump was discontinued in 2002, and parts for it are no longer available. Raritan switched over to a diaphragm intake pump in 2002, which doesn't use an impeller. This pump has proven to be a lot more reliable than the earlier impeller pump. Sound level is roughly the same, just at a lower pitch. There is a Retrofit Kit available to switch over to the new style pump, Raritan part # ADPRFK12. It includes everything you need to swap it out and update the head.

BoatFix carries the kits at a pretty good discount:

Vic,
Thanks for the update on availabilty before I got into it.
I have a houseboat with plenty of room below to mount the pump in the basement along with a prefilter. It would make it easier to sevice when I need to in the future. May even make it a little quieter. You see anything wrong with this soloution.

No problem at all; in fact that's my preferred way to install the raw water pump. When you remove the existing pump from the toilet, cut the wires coming out of the motor. Then extend those wires to connect to the wire pigtails on the new pump. For remote mounting of the intake pump, get part # ADPRFKR12, instead of # ADPRFK12 (add the "R" for the remote-mounting base on the pump).

Then you mount the pump fairly close to the through-hull fitting, preferably above the waterline. If you must mount the pump below the waterline, run the output hose from the pump up, at least 4-6" above the waterline, to a vented loop fitting, then run you hose from there, to the toilet. DO NOT put the vented loop in the hose between the through-hull and the pump, or the pump will suck air instead of water; it must be installed on the output side of the pump.

BoatFix also carries the Retrofit Kit for the remote-mount pump:
