Looking to do a trip to Atlantique in the near future, aiming for a Wednesday to Saturday morning stay. I'm a non-resident and will call ahead, but for those familiar with the marina, what the best location for two adults, no kids, NON RESIDENT with a 28' boat? I stayed on the middle of the west end one year and definitely felt out of place, is the center slips or east end wall better for out-of-towners? Do all the slips have water / 30 amp service?

Also, any update on the Robert Moses Basin? Is water / electric available?
 
Atlantique is mostly residents and not sure they will let you stay on weekend. Midweek may not be a issue.
I find all areas of Atlantique very cliquey with people who are always there.
I stopped going to Atlantique because it just got too expensive for a non-resident and I could only go off-season.
It used to be a place for me in the fall but last time I went I didn't appreciate the high rate for a place with little to do.
I believe all slips have water and electric and some are metered now so you pay per usage!

Robert Moses has electric and water in the East most basin. They are not ready for over-nights yet. They need to add lights and figure out the overall plan.

I know it's a little further but go to Watch Hill. It's more family oriented and you won't be booted or feel like a outsider.
Sailor's Haven would be my first choice coming in on wednesday but I believe Sailor's is still under renovation.
 
Sailor's has been my choice for the past 5 years, it's a shame that it won't be ready before the end of July. My gut is telling me to head to Watch Hill...do I need to reserve a slip or should I be fine for a 9am arrival on a Wednesday?
 
It can't hurt to reserve. You can reserve day of, so get in boat and start heading there and call and reserve.
Probably don't need it but it's easier to review location and size on phone than when you get there.
This weekend we are all at Watch Hill for FOWH weekend, so many slips are reserved for the weekend.
So if you are staying thru weekend make sure to tell him that!
 
Atlantique is 50 amp now. You need a 50 amp 125/250 volt to 30 amp adapter. It's not the same as the watch hill adapter.
 
As I think about it, the west wall still has (had) 30 amp service at about half the slips . From midway til the opening of the basin.
 
I think they only changed the larger slips and they metered them.
 
The people take some getting used too ... Ear plugs and patience too

I check in daily, rarely post, but know all about last year's episode. I can't disagree with your opinions based on my own experience. This morning, my wife cringed when I said, "what about Atlantique," she was like "no way." I'm not trying to reignite a heated argument, but a few of the many boaters at that marina made it very obvious that we were not welcome. I would love to try it again during the week and see if it was just a rare occurrence, but I'm not sure if she is onboard (literally and figuratively).

I have a 30 to 50 amp adapter, all set there.

Anyway, I was trying to approach the topic gently, but so much for that! :) :)
 
I would probably just head to Watch Hill. I like Atlantique as an offseason day trip or one night spot but I feel like Watch Hill has a much nicer setup. I'm sure you'll be able to get a slip on a Wednesday. I was there Sunday and there were plenty of slips available during the day and by time I left at around 7:30pm pretty much the whole place was empty.
 
We go to Atlantique all the time and it is cliquey. I'm a lone wolf so to say...empty slip and I pull in. My experience is that many of the boaters there also dock near each other on the mainland. So they see each other all the time. I live on the water so I don't have that camaraderie with all of them. I live in the town, it's close to home and my little girl thinks it's heaven on earth. Sunset from west wall still makes me smile. I could go on about people who think a picnic table is theirs but I won't. I sit my ass down when I want to grill and eat regardless . First went there as a kid in the 80's and steadily for past 12. Don't belong to a clique, don't want to, but love the place.
 
Zane, you hit the nail on the head. We just want to enjoy a few days, take in the sunsets, bbq a bit, and associate with friendly people. If we went, I was thinking of docking at the far end of the east side wall or middle finger pier, away from the main area. We are both pretty thick skinned, but one comment from an idiot can really ruin the trip.

Just signed up for the Freeport Hudson Anglers Shark Tournament this Saturday as a greenhorn captain, so let's see if I make it through that in one piece (along with the boat) before worrying about my trip to FI!
 
Good luck in the tournament. Some guys from my club are fishing it too.
 
Thanks, I'm giving it a shot for the experience. Only taking two guys, both have plenty of experience, but I have the boat...and apparently the money :) . We are friends with Glen from "Reel Games" who won last year. His advice..."sign up so I can take your money, I'll even let you borrow some rods." He's a real comedian!
 
west wall. Even the cliquey people are great and nothing like a sunset picture with the FI ferry in the background.
 
When I used to take smaller boats over and anchor, I thought Atlantique was the best. When ever I tied up to the docks for an afternoon or overnight, it was a horrible experience. It was either terrible weather(don't be on the west wall with a wind from the north), the dock master, other boaters, pets, you name it Atlantique is not worth the trip. After Rob's experience, forget it.

Ahh to be young like ZANE.... I wish i could let things roll... I think there is a med for that .

Boating is supposed to fun... enjoy it with great people... Just keep moving on ... BUT NEVER FORGET THOSE THAT F WITH U !

I'm actually 47. It's having a 5 year old that has mellowed me. Not that I see things through her eyes but making her happy has allowed me to focus on the goal. If you take the time to look around, there are *******s everywhere. I choose not to look anymore#128516;. Hell next guy that docks next to me might say I'm the ******* but hey I'm at the beach, so who cares.
