I have a '92 Atlantis r/w head. The marina that my boat is birthed in has a lot of sea grass floating in the water and consequently it is clogging the check valve in the r/w intake. Can I just eliminate the spring and ball. The head is below the water level, so do I need the valve? Thanks, Jerry
 
NO !!!! Don't remove the check valve. [:-bigeyes][:-bigeyes] It's there to keep the head from flooding when it is installed below the waterline. Instead, add a strainer to the input water line, before the check valve, to filter out all the detritus that is in the water:
