Check out this story ..... 2 Aussies sailing to Australia in February right before a NE blizzard. Needed rescue by the USCG. How stupid can people be. God bless the USCG rescuers

I hope it was uninsured, they loose the whole dang thing to the bottom. That way they can pay a "stupid tax".
 
Hey, if it wasn't for people like this, the CG wouldn't have jobs. Isn't this exactly what they plan for and are paid to do? Just part of being a citizen of a free country.

Yea, yea, that it ... never mind the "other", less glamorous jobs they do, like: Recreational Boating Safety; Professional Mariner licensing/inspections; Marine Environmental Protection; Law enforcement/drug interdiction; Port protection/traffic control; Navigation Aid maintenance; and, oh yea, ice breaking . . . and that's just off the top of my head.

good thing they have a few choppers and ribs, too. . .!!
 
Oh, believe me, they LOVE the dangerous part of the job too. You think they volunteered to do safety inspections and traffic control their whole career? NOPE.
 
N-C: care to weigh in? BTW - I suspect YOU had no power issues - but how long did it take for the island to get power back a couple of storms ago?
 
I'm actually out west nowadays, in Oregon - but my friends on the island tell me the power was never out for more than 12 hours at a time. They are BURIED, though.

No, they don't. The fundamental tenet of their job is identifying and mitigating risks, not charging headlong into them. Getting smashed up in nasty weather hurts. It leaves a mark, and it does a lot of damage.
