Ayala Cove, Angel Island

You shouldn't need that much rope. As others have stated here it is easier to loop a line through the mooring and back to your boat but you can also just tie the line to the mooring and you will only need half as much line. Also, you only need one long line for the bow you can use a much shorter one for the stern. Hope you are able to get out soon.

I don't really view the Bay Area as having a boating season, I just do different thing different times of the year. I am not planning on doing any swimming or water sports for the next few months, but will be doing lots of cruising and relaxing. Every time I read a winterization thread on this site I am so glad to live here!

I made a trip around Angel Island today for the first time since the fire a month ago, and was pleased to see that the damage, while visible, wasn't as bad as I had expected. You really can't see much of the burned area from Ayala Cove. A few pix at: http://www.baylinerownersclub.org/gallery/album750

You really do raise an interesting point. Im a new boater and when I started reading all this news about winterizing I thought I was in over my head. Shortly thereafter I realized this does not pertain to sunny California. I just took my brother, wife and sister in law out on the boat this weekend..Mid November..77 degrees. We went from Martinez to Vallejo Marina. 18 miles round trip. It took us just 28 minutes to get there in the Bayliner 2855.

On a seperate note..I checked my Gear Oil Lube Resevoir before leaving and it was right at the FULL line. I checked it again when we returned and noticed it dropped about an inch.

Is this normal or does this mean I have a leak?

I would check the gear oil again when the engine is cold and all the oil has drained back in the resevoir. It is not uncommon to get different readings with fluids after you have run the boat vs. before. If you actually did lose that much oil you will want to get it checked out. Next time you get to the boat see if it is at the same level.

I did go out to Delta Boat Storage over the weekend to winterize the ski boat I keep there. It rarely gets below freezing but I don't want to have to worry about it. Since it is in dry storage I don't have the benefit of any heat from the water helping with freezing issues. I keep my other boat in the water in SF so I don't worry about any issues with cold weather there.
