Bahamas - August 2011

Bob, you've had bad luck this year when it comes to this trip (not that we didn't as well!). Are you going to wait the storm out in FL?

I'm wondering what happened, like, did aliens abscond with him and his boat? The spot track just stops in the evening. Hopefully all is well and he's merely "cloaked".

He's converted Jimbo Song into a Klingon Bird of Prey and activated the cloaking device. I believe he will have to turn off the cloaking device before he is able to fire his weapons.

I'm alive and well. Battery ran out on the Spot and I didn't see it until today. got a good look at the storm and the projected track and the weather forcasts for the next week to 10 days and decided to make a leisurely cruise back home and wait it out here.

When Emily is gone I will be as well. :)

Bob

We looked out from Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday and thought, nope. Not going. The forecast was good, but it looked kind of choppy to say the least.
Good move.

Bob, So sorry to see the weather report and that lady named Emily but as Spot says: "Live to tell about it." How far was the cruise from your home port to Melbourne Beach? Looked like a good distance on the map but with those diesels you probably just sipped fuel.

Good Lord, Dan, are you back on the boat and ready to cross again? This dang "work" thing I have going needs to stop getting in the way of all the fun. Where are you in Lauderdale? We had a great time (and great off-season rates) at Bahia Mar back in June.

No, just a mid Summer check on how it's going on the hard. Since we are selling up North we check on the boat and spend a bit of time down looking around for a new (to us) place. We're back up North.
And as soon as we arrive the yard calls and wants to move the boat because there is a storm.

From my house dock to Melbourne is only about 100 miles so no big deal. I just puttered home at about 6-7 kts and used less than a 1/4 of each tank. (each tank holds75 gals) I just hated having to turn around. I've really been loooking forward to this trip.

Oh well, there's always next time but probably won't try again this year. I may do a St. Johns River cruise or go north on the ICW for a few days but this hurricane season looks to be a bit dicy this late in the year. So I probably won't try another bahamas trip.

May of nest year will most likely be my next Bahamas outing when Mixman and Boatbum are around. :)

Bob

Boy am I glad I turned around. Emily looks to be tracking much further east than originally forecast. Bimini's, Berry's and Grand Bahama look to get blasted as well as gale force winds along the FL east coast.

Looks like home will be the very best place to be. :)

Yep, nearly 300 hours on them already and I haven't made a Bahamas trip this year. I think we're going to do the Sy. Johns River right after Emily vacates the area.

Bob

Bob I'm glad to hear the change in plans. I was wondering if you were going to grab the opportunity that showed up the week before your planned departure, but sort of knew that plans are plans, and we have to eat what we sow.
Anyway, glad you are safe and we look forward to making a get together happen!

Hey, don't know you guys but I have been posting on the forum for a couple of years. We really would like to make a trip to the Bahamas next May. Reading your post has spurred me even more. We would like to make that trip with someone with experience in the Islands. Our 420 Sea Ray has been to the Keys and up and down the West Coast of Florida but are looking forward to the Islands.
If any of you ever put a flotilla together for that purpose I would like to know about it. Keep in touch, May is a long way off but time flies.
Thanks

Indeed, let's get this set up. We'll drag our boat down I-95 via trailer for some sort of trip in 2012 in May. Dan (boatbum) will most likely already be in the Abacos at that time of year, but Bob (rnbenton) and I will need to cross. Let's stay in touch and see what works out.

Sounds good to me. I've already got May 2012 blocked out on my calendar.

Holy crap, that's only 9 months away. I better get going on my projects and upgrades. :)

Bob

(Main upgrade is a new radar. I think mine got toasted in a thunderstorm lightening strike on the way back last week. Whatever, it's dead. But, I wanted to update it anyway)

There's nothing better than a nice boat-related electronics project! :-)

Wanna come down and help? I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to things that spark. :)
