Bahamas - July 2010

Stopped for the night. Have a look at my Spot Tracker to see where I dropped the hook. Wave Rogue hooked me up.

Tomorrow on down to Lake Worth and cross over Tuesday.

Good luck Bob and we wish we were going also!

Well, luck for this trip just ran out. A/C/ compressor gave up the ghost so now I have NO A/C. Bahamas in July/August and NO FRIGGIN' A/C!!

In North Palm Beach tonight, crossong tomorrow. Looks to be pretty flat.

Bob

It looks like the crossing conditions should hold for the rest of the week. Put of it off for a few days and do the repairs in FL. It'll be worth it!

(Or at least delay one day and buy the parts state-side.)

Are you sure it's the compressor?

Well, that's where the smoke came from. :D (not really)

It made a clanking sound for about a minute and then seized up never to run again.

Had a guy look at it here last night, Said it's toast. Mine is a self-contained unit so can't be fixed. Need a new one. :(

Bob,

Did you change your mind about West End while in route and end up in Bimini? That's a heck of a detour.

I guess Bob anchored on the bank last night to avoid running the rest of the way in the dark to Bimini. He seems to be moving again as of 15 minutes ago.

Not really a detour. Went due east to get across the stream then headed south.

Fishing was great so trolled a bit, bottom fished a bit and anchored off of Great Isaac, had dinner and fished some more.

VERY nice weather. Hot, but very nice.

Off the west side of Bimini right now. Wave Rogue doing it's job but a bit slow this far off.

Will put up pics when I get a faster connection.

Five fairly shallow SCUBA dives today. It's the only way I can stay cool. MAN it's hot and not much in the way of breeze. Night time is not so bad but the day time is killer.

Going to do a bunch more diving tomorrow but I don't knowhow much more of thie no A/C stuff I can take. I must be getting old. :)

Bob

Give it a chance, maybe you'll get aclimated? Just don't work to hard but I think that was part of the plan anyway :D

By the way, plenty of water, and perhaps some salty food?

Bob, call Merimaid in Ft. Meyers, would probably drop right in. Have installed several of these units myself and they work great and are a peice of cake to install.

Hey guys, here in Sampson Cay in the Exumas. Wow, very nice water clarity. We went across last Saturday morning, a bit rough so I stayed on the flybridge the whole way across so I wouldnt have to catch any grief. Smoothed out once we were on the bank. Went direct to Chub Cay. We will be heading through Bimini Big Game club next Tuesday on our way back.

Fed the swimming pigs today, a few people have been bit lately so we were pretty cautious. The kids loved it!

Kurt, you will love the Exumas, less developed than the Abacos and the water clarity is fabulous. Many boats over here right now, and lots of bigger boats. Every time we come here, it gets harder to go back. One day I am afraid I may not make it back to the states.

Rick,

GREAT! Glad to hear you're there and everything is well. Next spring I'm going to try again for the Exumas. The weather just didn't work out for us this last trip. The Abacos are not a bad second choice, so no regrets for our third trip. But the fourth needs to be further south.

Perhaps we'll see you back up here in the People's Republic of Maryland sometime.

Way to go Rick, we're hoping to make it there ourselves. Last Spring we sprung leaks on the shafts and had other issues. We're hoping it's different this year. Is the water that much more clear than it is in the Abacos?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. :)

Thr problem is that to get this one out and a new one in involves removing a lot of wood work. I'm going to go with another drop in unit (bit bigger BTU) I just didn't have the tools etc I need to get it done and I didn't want to pay a mechanic to do it. So, I took a shot. Not a good shot, but a shot. :)

OK, call me a wuss. I came back across. Day time spent enough time in the water to grow gills. Night time SWEAT! Anchored out not much breeze. In the Marinas no breeze at all.

So I had a few really nice days, did lots of diving, some fishing, some exploring.

You can bet this sucker will be right for the next trip. :) Already in the planning stages. New A/C and marine generator on board.
