Bahamas Screws the Tourists again.

Dan, from the regulations you posted, there seems to be no charge for a towed tender. What I said above, was a quote from the dockmaster at Atlantis. I asked the question twice and he gave the same answer, tow it and you pay, carry it and its free. The customs/entry price increase info was from an official customs documenet with no reference to clearing a tender. I carry my dinghy, so it doesnt affect me either way, but it seems that tenders in tow are not subject to customs fees.

I know some folks that have towed a tender to supplement a smaller tender stored aboard and they haven't been charged extra. But who knows what will really happen when you get there...

I remember a article in the Trydent about this same issue of tenders and it was posted that it seems to differ from island to island depending on where you clear in. So it has been a hit or mis all along.

I've towed in boats as large as 28' and never been charged for the towed vessel. And l will soon be towing in a 377 Intrepid that is around 40' over all and don't expect to be charged based on the way the law is writtenersx. If they are charging in Atlantis for towed vessels, I'd just check in some where else first.

"(3) Sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) of paragraph (1) shall not apply for tender vessels and ancillary equipment being towed or on board a pleasure vessel."

It's really kind crazy if you think about it. You could arrive on a 25' boat towing a 40' tender and only pay for the 25 footer. :-)

Back on the cruising fees, it looks like all of the hub-bub stirred the pot enough. I have received a report that the fee structure was in effect for a few hours before it was reverted at 1:00 PM in Bimini yesterday.
Pretty farking stoopidt to attempt implementation of this in front of a holiday weekend.

Capt Bill1 do you think I could get away with towing in the 50 footer with my 12 foot tender and pay for the little boat only? sweet!

Anyone have an update on the fees? The Bahamas.com website still shows the old fees.

From what I understand they are not using the new schedule. So the fees have been restored to the level we had prior to July 1st. However we have no idea what the future holds. If you read the article you will see how the politcos are double speaking. They say they had no idea, and then they say the action was about right.

NOTE: There is a local outer island paper call the Abaconian that is reporting the fees will go up in 2014 although the article has flaws and typos in it.
