Cabin fever has got the admiral and I discussing possible vacation plans for this year. Thinking about October. It would be the two of us and our girls 10 and 4. Any suggestions for bareboat charters? As long as the boat has a generator so our girls can watch TV in the AC I think they would be happy. I picture us leaving port, going to a deserted island and staying on the hook for a week while exploring the island and snorkeling. Is this possible? About how much would it cost? Any insight would be great.

Thanks in advance.

If you want TV be prepared to pay for an expensive charter. I don't think I've seen charter boats with TV in the Bahamas. Maybe you might want to consider renting a house and small boat in the bahamas. Perhaps a place on Lubers Quarters, Elbow Cay or Guana Cay.

I don't know if moorings has Any trawlers at their abaco base. Few of their sailboats have gensets and AC unfortunately

We ve been looking into a bareboat sail charter in the exumas (out of Nassau) and there are only a handful of choices, none with genny

October isnt the best time for the Bahamas, hurricane season isn't over yet and the weather can be iffy

For tv just take a laptop with a bunch of DVDs... No bareboat is going to have sat tv anyway

Good info, thanks for the advice. I might have not been clear on the TV, I was thinking just a TV with no satellite or channel reception, but something hooked up to a DVD player. But thats not a deal breaker, like Pascal says we could just take our laptop or portable DVD player.

I hadn't thought of a house, but that might be a better option. I will google those areas and see if I can find anything.

If October is iffy then I don't want anything to do with it, what would be the best time of year to go?

Thanks again.

Second half of November is better..

Check out staniel cay yacht club, they have bungalows on the water with 13' whalers. Great aera too. They often have specials at that time. Airfare is a little more $ but the specials and free boat usage make up for it

Either that or something on Compass, Staniel or Sampson Cays?

Pascal, coming from up North, would you suggest flying into Staniel Cay via Ft.Lauderdale or Nassau?

Check out Spirit airlines. They have some cheap flights to Nassau. Right now they have $12.00 fares to Nassau from Ft.Lauderdale for $9 Fare Club members.

These folks own, or at least used to, Staniel Key Yacht Club: http://www.watermakersair.com/
They have a free companion airfare deal going on right now.

Have been looking at some houses for rent in the area. Some even come with boats. Wow, prices aren't bad at all. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I'm going to pass your Email address along to one of my friends who just got back from his place in Eleuthera today. He'll contact you with where you can see pictures of at least his place.

Thanks a million. I'm going to take my email address down. If you need it just post back on this thread and I'll put it back up.

i don't think there are any flights to Staniel, maybe from Nassau on Bahamas air. no sure.

as bill mentioned, Watermaker is the SCYC own service. they fly out of FTL Executive which is nice because there are no lines, security, etc... but if you're connecting it means a cab right over. They make a quick stop in Andros to clear customs on the way to Staniel (but not on the way back to FTL).

We took Watermaker to Staniel Cay from FTL Executive a couple years ago. It was nice, totally different than the usual airport experience! We rented one of the cottages at SCYC and did the package deal with the 13' Boston Whaler included. It was a great trip although we went in November and the water was a little chilly and the weather in general wasn't that great. I would go in the spring next time.
