My marina has what I believe to be a 1971 Carver 28 Monterey that has been stored inside one of their buildings since about 1976/77.

The owner had put it into storage and looked to be starting to replace a rubrail section and part of the forward deck toe rail in 1976. We believe that some family problems arose and the boat got pushed back another year and another year.

Fast forward to last fall. The owner was sick of paying storage and signed the title over to the Marina. Keep in mind this Marina sold this boat new in the early 70's! I was on the boat recently and its amazing how intact it is. The upholstery is all dried out as well as the canvas but the interior still has the owners tools laid out on the table inside and all wood is in what looks to be amazing condition. The boat has not seen the light of day since the mid 70's.

The marina is looking to sell it basically for whatever they can get for it. Its in the back of a building so its not going anywhere anytime soon but the owner asked if I knew of any websites that Carver owners might look and be interested.

I will try to grab some pictures this coming week. The boat is kind of a time capsule.

Disclaimer: I will make nothing off of this, I am just posting for a friend and gauging interest for fellow enthusiasts.

WOW! Nice find, but will take a LOT of elbow grease, plus other work. Great project boat for someone with a lot of patience and time.

Wow! That could be a sweet boat for someone who wants to put the time, effort and money into it.

The marina basically wants it gone. They will listen to all offers. I'm thinking around 3k would take it home.

Thats incredible - the boat looks really intact sitting under all that dust!

It is very intact. Nobody has really touched it in the past 30 years at least and its always been indoors.

That's not a boat. That's a museum. The desk fan. The galley faucet. Heathkit?!?!?! Are they even around any more. She has potential but I think she's haunted.

Notice the only thing that doesn't have dust on it is the Pabst Blue Ribbon mug?

[:-idea]
...this is an opportunity that should be offered to a purist, and not to some yahoo [:-clown] who has the $$$ to buy it and then has no idea what to do with it...

...it is rare to find a boat like this that can be resurrected and gently used by a young family who would appreciate this tiny bit of boating history... [:-clock]

...please advise the marina to be selective [:-snooty] in considering her transfer of ownership to a new owner...

...I'm just sayin'...

The boat has a good 30 years of dust and storage barn crud on it, this spring or early summer they are going to pull it out and clean it up a bit so we can market it online correctly.

It is true its not a boat for everyone, it will take a rare person who has the passion to take on the challenges that may arise. I am willing to bet this boat is more solid than the majority that still exist without seeing direct sunlight in 30 years. The owners loved the boat but one thing after another in their lives led them to not coming back to the boat even with their full intentions of bring it back online. You don't pay for 30 years of indoor storage at one of the most expensive marinas in town for nothing lol.
