An important day in U S Naval History.
Back in 1942 the USN and the IJN locked horns in Pacific Ocean off Midway Island. The IJN goal was to occupy Midway Island and establish their defensive permimeter far east of their Home Islands and then perhaps sue for Peace.
Aided by excellent signals intelligence, good seamanship and a huge dose of good luck the USN prevailed. The toll was 4 IJN carriers sunk, only 1 USN flight deck was lost. This marked the end of offensive operations for the IJN. Their war shifted to the defense. USN carriers ruled the Pacific Ocean thenceforth.
