They were really great this year.. Boating back to Bergin point was a nightmare! One of my guests broke off my light pole so I did not feel to safe but for my underwater lights I would have had to wait all night to limp home. But the show was nice, the heck with Jones Beach!

Was the nightmare because of the broken light, or due to traffic? Where did you go to view it?
I went to the Jones Beach show by boat once many years ago and decided that I'd really have to hate myself to attempt that one again.
We were thinking about taking a little cruise east last night to check out the show you went to, but we weren't sure about where to go to get a good spot to watch or what it would be like getting back to Lindenhurst. I don't mind running along the north channel from the Robert Moses back to my dock at night because of the ambient light from the shoreline, but I'm not comfortable wandering around to other places in the dark.
It turned out that we were too tired and full from two days of BBQ's, so we just hung out at home and watched the Macy's show on TV.
But if it isn't too much of a hassle, and a fairly easy route back, I Might make a plan for next year.

I also went and had a great time. Show was well done and i loved anchoring in all the open water rather then being crammed into zach's bay. I actually had a nice safe distance between myself and the boats around me and the fact that we were anchoring in just 4 feet of water mad anchoring easy. There was alot of traffic going back to lindenhurst but it was worth it and i would do it again next year.

Was a great 4th,here's some pictures I took with my cell phone.Way better then dealing with zack's bay.click on link for video.

Oh it was a great show, Bay Shore always has it! It was a bit rough getting back with all the boat traffic and the single white light is pretty much all you can see of other craft, so when my light was broken I was afraid I would not be seen but with my nephew behind me in his boat and my underwater halogens I did make it back. Besides, you could always choose to wait an hour to leave.. it gets hairy! I will do it again next year..

We watched the show from our dock on Oronoc Creek. Was glad I didn't take the boat into the bay. Holy cow- the traffic coming back up the creek afterward was nuts. boats 3 abreast, who's about to run up whose arse, who didn't have working lights...

Reminded of that scene from Jaws where everybody's goin' huntin' at the same time in anything that'll float. Pretty funny :-)

Ha ha ha.. that was exactly my thought! Jaws! Reminds you that half of these boaters are weekend warriors and can't handle these boats that well so you have to watch them vigilantly!
