We're planning on being in the Bahamas, primarily Bimini and the Berry Islands after Christmas. I'd be grateful for any recommendations for beach bars, restaurants, fish markets, etc.

Merry Christmas!

Bimini - End of the World bar.
Restaurant - Red Lion Pub, Capt. Bob's for breakfast and/or lunch. Bimini Bay restaurant for dinner if it's still open.

FYI, I just heard Bimini Big Game Club is shut down. And of course the Complete Angler is still burnt down.

Berrys - Not a lot there marina wise other than Chub Key, Berry Islands Club/Frazers Key Club and Great Harbor Marina. I've had good meals at both Chub Key and the Frazer's/Berry club. Not sure what is open at Chub now. They have had financial problems. Frazer's/Berry is a great place to hang out. Never been in to Great Harbor but they have/had a few local restaurants and bars.

As to fish markets, the only one's I've seen are on the bigger islands. Other than that you just catch your own or flag down a fisherman and buy it fresh off the boat. Most times if they see you anchored out they will stop by and see if you want any fish or lobster. Once you get to know them you can place an order for the evening or next day.

"Bimini Big Game Club is shut down"

Any details?

A friend just came back from Bimini a week or so ago. And he said it was closed. The story he heard was that the club would buy fuel using money they got from the Bahamian government and/or would buy the fuel on credit from the government. And that they had not or could not pay the government back for fuel lately. So they were shut down. All this is third or forth hand so take it with a big grain of salt.

i had dinner there, once, they had rats roaming in the restaurant... the staff thought it was funny. disclaimer, that was a few years back...

MacInCt,

Never saw a rat in any restaurant in Bimini.... there are several restaurants on the main road that serve excellent local seafood. Make sure that you have the cracked conch as it is excellent.

The night life scene has shifted down the road from the Compleat Angler to a new development on the site of the old Brown's Hotel. I hear that the bands from the Compleat are now playing down there. It is down by the End of the World bar so you can't miss it.

If Captain Bob's is not open for breakfast, try C.J.'s as a good second.

Also for dinner, the Bluewater restaurant has a great sunset view and decent food, there is also a very informal beach bar overlooking Radio Beach where you can have a strong rum and something + while you watch the sun sink into the Atlantic. Green flash opportunity. As I recall this is called Sherry's Bar.

The Bluewater Marina or the Seacrest are excellent places to stay aboard while you are in Bimini.

While you are there, take the time to travel south and visit Gun Cay and Cat. Snorkling is excellent along the way at Turtle Rocks and the concrete ship Sapona which you will be able to see from South Bimini.

Good snorkling at Honeymoon Harbour on Gun as well.

Don't know about the Berry's.
