Best Place to boat in MA

If living in Auburn MA where is the best place to boat and how far would it be from Auburn MA?
As far as I can see I only have two choices and those are ..
1) Hudson River
2) The Atlantic Ocean
 
Will you be trailering your boat?

Boston Harbor and it's many islands are an hour from Auburn...and Provincetown an hour from the harbor. Warwick, RI is an hour from Auburn as well, at the top of Narragansett Bay and less than an hour from RI Sound. If a large lake suites you, you're two hours from Lake Winnipesaukee in central NH. Winni has clean and clear water, is great for water sports, and has several destinations (i.e. towns, restuarants, sandbars, islands, etc) that allow for some cruising.
 
Carver, I'd say either Boston Harbor or Narragansett Bay based on being in Auburn.
 
Yikes. You have a ton of options. Boston or anywhere south of there down to the cape. I would stay off the cape because of traffic. Then you have all of Buzzards Bay and then to Narrangansett Bay and on to Fisher Island Sound. Don't overlook the CT River for inland boating too.

You are close to some of the richest cruising grounds in the world. Enjoy!
 
Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham are all about 60 miles east of Auburn if you are looking for a marina in the Boston/South area. We keep our boat at a yacht club in Boston and there are many places within a short ride to enjoy. Salem, Marblehead, Provinetown, Plymouth, Boston plus Stellwagon Bank with all the whales, seals and great fishing are about 25 miles off the coast.
 
Odd that nobody asked: What kind of boating do you plan to do? Fishing? Skiing? Swimming? Overnight cruising? Day trips? Do you like to go fast? Sail? Travel in comfort? Do you plan to bring along a spouse? Fishing buddies? Kids? Do you like to raft up with others? Find a secluded anchorage? Go into town for the nightlife?

Like so many things in life, it all depends. There is no "best" place for boating any more than there is one "best" boat for everyone.

Yes I do plan on bringing the Carver..I'm not to sure about the salt water..It has never seen salt water and I hear that it is not good stuff to be in..Any recomendations on this?.
 
I believe you will need different anodes if you move to salt water.

If you want to stay clear of salt water, there's really only one viable alternative, i.e., Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. (Which is where I keep my boat.) There's a Carver dealer, and lots of Carvers, on the lake.

It might be a bit of a commute for you from Auburn, but many of my slipmates at the marina have a longer drive thn yours would be. In my case, it's 100 miles driveway to slip, but I wouldn't move for any reason.

Thanks for the info...Yes I would rather stay clear of salt water..I will check things out if and when this visa goes through..I am back down to Auburn on Wed. and Thursday to see what can be done.

Lots of places to boat on Winni.
I think Lake Winnipesaukee is the 6th largest lake entirely within the the U.S. Qualifying it with "entirely" within the U.S. eliminates all the great lakes except Lake Michigan. So, if I remember correctly, the 5 that are biggger are Lake Michigan,Lake Okeechobee,Great Salt Lake, Lake Powell, and lake Mead.

You are soooooo limiting yourself if you stick to fresh water out here. With that boat you can enjoy countless hours of enjoyment exploring the coastal areas of Massachusetts.

I can not say enough great things about the CT River. You can get in around springfield, Hadley in MA about 7mi. streach lots o boats great sandy bottom, Freshwater. Or anywhere between Hartford and Long Island in CT. Fresh Water from Essex Ct north to Hartford. South of essex is brackish to salt in the sound. But man does it give you a lot of options. I keep my boat in Chester CT. Fully fresh water but options to travel to anywhere you want via long island sound to block island then back to slip in fresh water. Check out chrisholm Marina in Chester CT that is where I stay. Any ?'s do not hesitate to ask.
