Best route Amityville to Freeport?

I may need to run to Freeport this weekend in a smaller boat. What is the best route (i.e. fastest and least chance of complications) to take - it's not clear to me from the chart.

Left at Goose Creek and run out along the barrier island, then turn north past the Meadowbrook? If so is Swift Creek navigable as it shows as unmarked on the chart?

Or right at GC and down into Merrick Bay?

Anyone have local knowledge?
 
Couple routes.

You could run the flats through massapequa go into the seaford cut to goose creek, go under bridge, head towards meadowbrook bridge. once under bridge head "right" go under bridge, go straight and you run into freeport....Easiest way..

I could send you another way to goose creek, just depends on what size boat
 
Matt, thanks. The getting to Goose Creek part I understand - have not been over there for 5-10 years but I was over there a lot in my youth. What I don't know at all is the west side of that. But I think you are telling me, head out toward the barrier island and then cut back up to Freeport.

But that right after the Meadowbrook bridge, that's the "Swift Creek"? Markers in there? None needed?
 
Ron, I would run the amity channel which would drop you off by the 2nd wantagh, go throguh the 2nd wantagh and hand left towards 3rd wantagh which will bring you to state channel (sloop channel) once you go under meadow 3, it's a wide right turn for the channel into freeport ( closer to the houses on the island) that channel brings you in right at the mouth of woodlcleft, , hudson canal is one west and main canal is west of that. where in freeport are you heading?
 
Yes, Markers are in there. If you go at low tide, youll see huge sandbar, obviously avoid it lol
 
Thanks for the info! I was going to the next one west of Main, but now it looks like it's not happening this weekend. I'm going to file this though.
