Did I read somewhere lately that the restictions at the Great Salt Pond for discharge of waste recently got worse.

I amd planning to go there in a few weeks. I know that I cannot discharge anything in the Pond but is there a new rule on not even having the ability to discharge there.

Not sure exactly what kind of discharge you are asking about. Discharge can come in a few flavors so to speak. Waste, Grey water, hasmet such as bilge chemicals like fuel, antifreeze etc.

Discharge of waste or chemicals in just about every place in the civilized world is not permitted. However 3 miles out in the ocean you can discharge human waste. Grey water such as showers, sinks etc is still accepted in many places, but more and more areas are beginning or now are restricting this. Therefore a grey water system needs to be installed. As far as I know in the Great Salt Pond, grey water is still allowed for discharge, but this is what you may have heard is changing. If you can find the actual document and post it that would be great.
 
It's like that in lake champlain, if you close the valve & dis-connect the overboard dischage hose you should be good to go. hopefully yours are easy to get to. ( don't know about B.I. though , haven't heard that yet) Jon
 
I don't think that the restrictions have been increased. There was alot of talk about the rejection of Champlin's expansion permit to limit the amount of grey water discharge. I haven't seen anything beyond that.

Even in the Sound and NY Harbor, if you are boarded, they will look to see if you have "locked" off your overboard discharge. In my case, my thru hulls for maserator and direct discharge are wire tied in the closed position. In addition, the Y valve is wire tied into the holding tank position. If you have a key switch for your maserator, they don't want to see the key hanging from it.
 
i stopped there a couple of weeks ago, there were signs about black water but nothing about grey water.

i don't see how any non landlocked jurisdiction could pass grey water restrictions since so many boats are not ready to collect grey water.

Thanks, guys for the good info. I had just heard that they were or did add a rule that you cannot go there if you had the "possibility" of discharging your head into the pond.

So it is the same rules as in the past.

I don't think you can ever dump waste within 3 miles of any shoreline!!!!
Should never be a question!
 
C'mon guys, it's been almost 2 whole days since this thread started, and nobody has made any wise cracks like "Ask Bob, he's the resident expert on Block Island" or anything like that! You guys are really slacking off...
 
Ok, I will bite.

Bob is the only acceptable waste you can dump in Great Salt Pond!!!

LOL... now that was funny....

Did you see on ATC about the bowrider that sunk... Bob got mentioned a few times there.
