Like many on this board, I applied the buff magic/pro polish system before the season. The boat looked great initially (better than anything previously used), however after a couple of months of use, the water no longer beads and the topsides look a bit dull. In the past, my experience with the maguires three step system provided longer lasting results. At this point, I would give the BM/PP system a c-. I think next year I would do a wax coat over the pp for better/longer protection. I am interested in other people's observations....

Jusst the opposite for me. 2nd year with Buff Magic and Pro Polish and i scrub the topsides weekly.

Greg,
When you scrub, do you use soap, if so what kind? I have my boat polished with Leverage and don't use soap, it will remove the polymer.

I only use Kit Car wash. it doesn't remove wax and does't APPEAR to affect the Pro Polish.

I have been using the Shurhold boat soap, I think its called Yachtbrite or maybe something else.... In any event, it is part of the BM/PP line. Any thoughts about the wax over the polymer?

Do not use wax over the polymer.

You're defeating the reason for using the polymer in the first place if you use wax.

Timely posting. I used BM/PP for the first time this year and was about to ask the same question. The horizontal topsides are losing their gloss and I'm seeing signs of chalking already. The vertical sides still look great though. I've used Finessit II followed with Maguires, Trewax and most recently Fleetwax and was most pleased with the shine and duration of the Fleetwax but application was difficult. My initial reaction to the BM/PP was that it gave me the best look and shine I've been able to get on this 23 yr old boat and was a helluva lot easier than other methods.. Florida sun is brutal. Still have half a season to go.

I think Fleetwax is one of the easier products to apply, but you need a cool day and MUST work in the shade, so a Florida summer presents a challenge. If that stuff starts to dry, it's a real pain.

I haven't found anything yet that beats its durability.

cmariner,

Do you use a machine to apply the buff magic? Strange that it's chalking so quickly. If the gel is buffed out properly it shouldn't chalk in a few months.

Old Method: Maguires Heavy Ox and Starbrite with Teflon
New Method: BM/PP

-My topsides still look good (better than the old method), except for some black streaking (similar to old method).
-White sides still look good (similar to old method)
-Dark Blue sides look good (similar to slightly better than old method). I thought I was going to have a problem with the sides as the BM did not remove as much material as the Maguires
-Waterline crud looks similar to slightly worse

Conclusion: Eh

We had very dry spring-I buffed it in early April. The chalking is minor at this point, but visible. I did use a rotary buffer for both the BM and PP. I was really pleased with the initial outcome. I did not put on a 2nd coat of PP-perhaps I should have. The sides still look great. I will reserve judgement until winter. I bought a new bottle of PP from BW for $10 when they were closing, so I'll be using it again next year.

If you didn't put on 2 coats then that would be a problem. You need 2 coats to make sure you have full coverage and enough protection, especially in FL.

I will be comparing BM/PP next season with my trusty Aurora Boat Shine. PP will have to last awful long to out due what I'm use to with Boat Shine. I don't have the Florida sun to contend with either though.

As long as I do not apply a cleaner wax, wouldn't the overcoating of wax just apply a protective coating over the polished surface?

Different technologies. Polymers work at the nano level. Frankly, I think you would be wasting your time.

Leverage is the best I have ever used, the last two years its been flawless.I will never use wax on my boat again.Wizard turbo cut, followed by buff magic, then Leverage is what I have used for the last two years,20 years tried it all.

I hate to hi-jack this tread but I would like to have Greg S. from wheeling , call me at 1-330-540-9219. Greg, I slowed way down passing you marina last month on our marietta trip and noticed your silverton shinning like a new one. I could only say that what you are using really works well. I could not private message you because i didn't get my ancor yet. thanks , Joe.

Thanks joe, Buff Magic and Pro Polish. good to talk to you tonight.

I am having chaulking issues as well with bm/pp. And I also did not apply a second coat of pp. So I am buffing again after 6 months. Does the second coat of pp really make hat big a difference?

2 coats seems to work for me. Still able to wash off the black streaks after 4 1/2 months.
