BOAT SOAP

Don't know what is the "Best" but do know it is reccomended not to use soap that conains citrus(the stuff that smells good, like orange). I was told this will strip your wax. I was also told if you have strata-glass it will ruin your glass.

I use Orpine soap, not the new soap and wax combo, and have been very happy with it.

Doesn't dawn do a good job of stripping the wax as well?

Dawn will take the wax right off your boat, if your boat is not shiney then its a good idea. I use dawn to take the old wax off my cars before I detail and wax them so the paint is bare, most high end detailers do the same.

I bought about 10 bottles of Dolphinite Boat soap from E-Bay when I found out they went out of business.

Still the best boat soap I've found so far. I'm down to 5 or six bottles. I'm starting to get nervous!

I thought they were coming back with it but haven't seen it yet.

Dawn is certainly good for stripping the wax off your boat/car. However, it also is taking the oils out of the paint/clearcoat and so over time you are doing more harm than good if you use it without discretion. I would say use it sparingly on your gel coat and instead of always using it on your car use a milder wash soap and then clay the clearcoat to get a clean surface to wax.

Most car washes will clean well without removing your labor intensive wax job. Whereas almost any type of dish soap/detergent or even household cleaners(409 fantastic, green stuff, lysol) will easily remove your wash your wax down into the drink.(these should be avoided unless wax removal is intentional) Wash entire boat with mild car/boat soap and rinse. Go back and remove any stubborn stains or dreaded black streaks on a spot by spot basis then rewax those areas. GOOD TO GO

After using many soaps over the years I have found the WM Crystal Clear boat soap to be the best/safest. Not too strong where it strips the wax yet gets the daily grime off the surface with little effort from the brush. Key is to get and keep a good coat of wax on.

I use the Turtle Wax brand and use a VERY small amount in 5 gallons of water. Only a splash, otherwise it will eat wax like all other soaps.

For the brown waterline that gets on the boat at Lake Tahoe, Kaboom is the only thing that will remove it. It might be one of the cleanest lakes in the world but it gets a lot of sap from all the pine trees floating on it.
