Can you list the top five?
What year Venture trailer?
I don’t recall the year of the trailer but I think it was new(ish) to the boat when we bought it the boat used. So say 2010 or so. We finally sold it in 2017i think. And that was after fixing or replacing something at least every year if not more often.
Venture issued the same VIN number to 2 trailers so we couldn’t register it to start because it already existed and was registered to someone else. That took a few weeks to sort out.
We constantly had uneven wear on tires. To the point we would go through a tire in 250-500 miles. (Sometimes less) A set of tires a season and I mean worn badly/bald. we would tow maybe a total of 500-700 miles a year if that. Brought it to all kinds of different trailer/boat/dealer places no one could diagnose. Replaced all kinds of parts trying. (None covered under warrantee) Eventually had the axles replaced. Thinking an axel was bent. Still had issues after
We had a U-bolt Break holding the rear axle. Never hit anything.... it just broke. Luckily we saw it when pulling out and was able to swap for a fender ubolt at the marina.
The bunks were not set correctly and we wore a spot through our fiberglass.
The emergency brake cable rusted and had to be replaced within the first 2 years.
Had to replace the wiring harness within 3 years.
Finally we had a wheel fall off while driving down the highway. We sold it immediately after that. We were lucky we didn’t kill someone or ourselves.
I feel like there were more but that’s what sticks in my head.
A lot of these seem like poor maintenance or improper use..: but I assure you that it’s not. I’m a very cautious driver when trailering. Speed limit or under. We know our routes to the local lake (less than ten miles) and to our weekend getaway (220 miles one way)! Every bump in the road and every turn. We take it slow and steady. Professionally repaired and maintained by venture dealers or respected local people. And just one problem after another. We do pre trip And mid trip walk around of the boat/trailer to look for problems. Check air pressure and lug torque before every trip. And still constant problems.
We bought a load rite and it’s a world of difference. Haven’t had a problem since. Trailering to the weekend lake we stop at the same gas station for the last 30 years. With the venture we would struggle to make it before hitting empty. The load rite we have a 1/4 tank to spare. (Same tow vehicle, same equipment and weight/load same everything except trailer) so clearly something was dragging in the old trailer to gain that much gas mileage on the same truck.
Where the venture trailer had 2 u bolts the loadrite has 4. Going on 3-4 years and don’t have any wear on the tires. Same amount of trailering every year.
Just a world of difference. Maybe I got a lemon.... but I I feel like we replaced everything possible and still problems. I’d never touch a venture trailer again!
