Which one do you all use and what are some of the pros and cons of each service..

What plans do you have too?
 
Due diligence,is necessary. I currently have BoatUS here. They both provide the same services. It's more about what is available in the area. If I were closer to the Chesapeake I would have SeaTow. They are go to go to folks in the lowest James area. We're only talking roughly 50 miles as the crow flies from my marina / boating area to the entrance to the James River.
 
I use sea tow and having to use them last year captain alan and his freeport crew were a pleasure
 
Being a former Sea Tow Captain I am naturally prejudiced, but, actually it comes down to which one is closest to where you do most of your boating. I do know that Sea Tow manages their franchisees very closely they watch response times very closely as well.

In our neck of the woods it would be sea tow. They IMHO have a larger presence. The local Seatow office with boats is in the Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst. Also, I believe his name is Adam, is a BE member here and works for Sea Tow.
I never experienced the service from Boat US, but have used Sea Tow. Sea Tow is Great, but from what I have read so is Boat US. Think your choice is what I mentioned, "presence" where you boat. Boaters that travel far from their port have both.

Use Sea Tow

Captain Alan is top notch

His fleet is out of Atlantic Yacht Haven Marina on Freeport Creek

I dock in Freeport, but most of my boating is done over by Zachs bay and Hemlock..

Sea Tow is down the canal from me, and thats what I was leaning towards. However, its always good to see what everyone else has and what their experience has been
 
Alan is great and Sea Tow is the way to go in our area. He now keeps the Sea Tow boats at the other yard called Travelers Yacht Haven on the Hudson canal. A very well run operation.
 
I guess ill be the lone wolf on this one. I have both Boat US and Seatow. In Nassau Boat us has been awesome to everyone in Merrick . Out east Seatow has a larger presence.

Only had one personal experience with Boat us . Was a Husband and wife team and they were amazing. Guy on my dock his son ran his JEt ski so far aground we couldnt get anywhere near him with a lil boat. Same Boat us couple came he put on his waders... walked out to the ski . Hooked it up and pulled em off. They are like a well oiled machine.

for a 200 dollar investment id go with both... just my thoughts

I greatly resent having to join Boat US just to get their towing service. They're the only service here that I know of. I've had to call Vessel Assist twice. Once out of S.F. Bay and once out of Monterey bay and both times the tow boats were broken down or being repaired.

Sea Tow where are you??

Confused.

What do you mean by "having to join Boat US just to get their towing service."?
 
You have to join boat us, an added cost in addition to the towing service.
 
I've got Boat US, and although I've never had to use it for my boat, I've been on two different boats where it had to be used a total of 3 times in the past few years.
The first time we were close to the Jones Beach fishing pier when the motor blew on the boat I was on, and a male and female from Boat US came to the rescue quickly, and towed us back to the ramp at Wantagh Park where my friends trailer was. Their service was excellent.
The other two times I was on another boat. He was having what he later learned were fuel tank problems and had to be towed twice in a few weeks time by the Lindenhurst area. Just my luck, I was fishing with him both times.
The same guy from Boat US answered the call in each instance. He got there quickly. I think he was hanging out over by Gilgo. He towed us back to the dock both times, and his service was excellent.
After seeing this topic come up in different forums several times over the years, and based on my personal experience, I would have to say that both provide excellent service, and the choice is a toss up. You can't go wrong with either.
 
I always ran with both. I figured if I got in a real jam I wanted the boat closest to me or they could assist each other. SeaTow was slightly better in my old area of boating.

Another "Yes" for Boat US. They station a boat down the canal from me in Bay Shore near Nicky's (or where Nicky's will be again when they resume building his new place). Courteous and professional.
 
You know Charlie, I never paid any attention to the "membership" thing or even realized it was not an option. As I said. It's what is local to me. Their push against more congressional ethanol BS is worth the $25 to me even if the membership was opotional. Even with the membership fee, it's still cheaper than one tow.
 
Have you ever thought about joining the USCG Auxiliary?

With certain conditions to be met you get the tow free as a member.
 
It is a great organization, and those who are members are really into it and give their time to teach and help others. They do so much and contribute a lot of time and effort. I have a dock neighbor, his wife and himself are so into this and dedicated it is awesome!Lot's of work, and they deal with a lot of young people and help to shape their lives.

GOOD PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
