They're supporting legislation to change the rules requiring so much gasohol and the increase in ethanol to E15. You may be interested in looking into it and possibly asking your legislators to support it.

You sure about that bro? Local radio in RIC today interviewed BOAT US & they were against it although not with a vengeance.
 
I think you are both saying the same thing. I believe they are trying to make sure boaters don't use damaging E15 at either dock pumps or when trailering at car pumps.
 
I saw a longer version of the story "somewhere" and couldn't get back to it. As with all this stuff, Devil's in Details and it's All Details. At least in summary, one goal was to reduce the extensive use of corn-based fuel. It "seemed" the goal was to make ethanol-free available for things like boats and small engines, also keep ethanol at no more than 10%. That said, one of the many things I'm not, is lawyer. And I don't have constituents in oil or ag. Legislators are both.
 
I,m in upstate ny and we have ethanol free 91 at all fastrack stations some also have 87 and many other brands offer a non ethanol pump it really helped with all the fuel issues and boats do run better on straight gas! corn ethanol is moonshine with an additive so humans cant drink it! all engines run better and get better mileage with straight gas
 
Western Ky gas stations around the lake offer straight gas for trailer boaters. Pumps at the marina's only have 89 straight gas. One exception is a marina a few miles upstream that offered gas with ethanol last summer, it was about 50cent cheaper per gallon. Friends that used it rationalized that the fuel never sat in the tank over a week or two, and was usually blended with non ethanol fuel remaining in the tank. Can't say as I disagree. My 93 Chris has had both carbs rebuilt and 2 of my three fuel lines have been updated, cant say I'd never squirt a hundred gallons in each tank on occasion.
Wonder who at the marina will be forced to buy the left over $4.50 gallon gas remaining from last summer, I have about half tank on each side so I'm gold for the first or second outing.
 
This may be different, but there is a legislative effort to do away with the mandated annual increase in ethanol mostly from cellulosic sources which only exist in limited supply. Every year more and more cellulosic ethanol is mandated under law and every year the fuel blenders are fined for not mixing something that is unavailable. This goes to court every year since the EPA being the fools that they are, fails to relax the amount of mandated cellulosic in a realistic manner. Every year the judge slaps their hand for being 9-10 months late in relaxing the requirements. The problem stems from the government denying that it is difficult and very expensive to manufacture ethanol from cellulosic sources. Ethanol from corn does not meet the mandate since it is not green by the standard.

This stems from the governments innate ability to pick losers like range fuels, and solyndra.
I suspect the proposed legislation relates to the fiasco's listed above, although the administration will probably veto it since the bundlers are getting rich on subsidies to produce the subject ethanol and the price is steep due to short supply.
 
I suspect it has more to do with the agribusiness lobby and the politicians who rely on their money to get reelected.

At one stage of the ethanol mandate you are correct but the requirement has morphed into an environmentalist nightmare for us since they falsely believe that ethanol and other renewable fuel are essential to prevent the world being catastrophically ruined by 0.04% CO^2.

Further information, the current law mandates increasing amounts of renewable energy in our fuels each year, which current technology cannot provide. This plot shows the required increase by law unless the currently proposed legislative change is implemented. Note that ethanol from corn is flat whereas technologically non viable fuel dramatically increases. When the law was passed, the environmental lobby convinced Congress that the mandate was viable. This will be devastating for us boaters.
