Boeing 737 sunk for artificial reef

After over 24 days of rain, the weather was great today for the sinking of a boeing 737 just off the east coast of Vancouver Island near Chemainus. The event was undertaken after months of preparation by the Artificial Reef Society of BC. Under sunny skies and among a large floatilla of pleasure boats, and assorted aircraft overhead, she went down at noon as scheduled. It was a grand day out with friends on their Californian 34. We set prawn traps on the way out and picked up a nice catch on the way home. A pleasant bonus to top it off was a visit by a pod of 6 Orca whales on the way back to the marina at Ladysmith. Not so fortunate was a wayward seal which the whales obviously thought was intruding on their feed of herring. He got a severe thumping, and either left the scene, or was "taken out" in the process.
