I am replacing the boot stripe on a Carver 325. If anybody has any tips, I would appreciate hearing them. The old boot stripe has already been removed. The replacement is original, from Carver.

If the old is not off I had good luck with a little heat from a heat gun a new single razor blade. Then take alcohol and wipe any wax or remaining glue off. I used a roller for wallpaper to get the air bubbles out of the tape and have a god seal.

I replaced mine last year. Just take your time and it is not too hard. Only you will see the slight imperfections.

I bought my boot stripe here and is identical to the original.

I used a pencil to get some small guide marks.

Go from the stern to the bow and when you get to the bow, cross to the other side where the stripe wants to go and don't trim yet. You won't be able to continue up the other side so don't try.

Do the same on the other side and cross the bow the same way and you should have a "V" at the bow. Use a razor blade to trim right down the middle and you will have a perfect transition.

I used a single long relacement blade from an ajustable blade knife and just rolled it around the bow rather that pulling the blade along where the two ends meet. Use a blade that is about 6" long. You will cut a better straight line around the bow.

I am taking the gold off mine this year (which was aftermarket redone in 97 to Gold and Navy) and replacing it with silver from 3M. My navy stripe is still in very nice shape so I am leaving that but the gold is starting to date the boat.

My hull stripe is the same colors just a larger width.

Wow, that looks incredible! Is that an optional mirror finish on your boat? You or your detail person must have huge arms from that shine! I am jealous of that shine.

It can be done on almost any boat, just takes time and ALOT of effort. It helps I am the original owner but the boat didn't start looking really really nice until polymers came out and I threw away all traditional wax. Opti gloss "Super Cut" followed by Buff Magic (at about 1600 on a dewalt buffer) and finish it off with leverage polish.

Thanks for the props!

I've removed the boot stripe on every boat I've owned and replaced it with either new vinyl tape or painted it on. I found using a piece of acrylic with a sharp edge ground on one edge similar to a chisel worked great. No worry about a razor blade taking a chunk out of the gel coat, no scratches either. I cleaned up the left over glue with goo gone or laq. thinner.

32Carv,
Where did you get the 1" gray stripe? I was able to find the black but not the gray. I also have a 3227. Thanks.
