Bored

It's only fall and boats are still in the water! Gonna be a long winter!

We are all working, what are you doing?
 
heading to Florida in about a week .....for the winter. :)
 
Supposed to be 80 and sunny this weekend. Assuming I could convince my wife to go away for a boating weekend, is there anything still open with a restaurant?
 
I'm sure there are places still open. On Sunday my sister was at Robert Moses and took a walk to Kismet and said the marina was full and a lot of people were at the Kismet Inn hanging out and watching football.

As for me, busy working or out on the boat at Montauk. Time to bring it home this weekend though, if the forecast holds Sunday should be a nice day for the ride back.

There are a bunch of places in Ocean Beach that are still open.
Snapper inn is always open and a good option!
 
If you want something on the north side of the bay.....Smuggler Jacks is open. We where there a few weeks ago by car.. Food was good an plenty of floating docks for customers .

Anyone know the depths of that canal.
Docks look nice and restaurant looks nice too.
But last time I went down a skinny canal I touched bottom and bent a blade.
Those canals scare me because there is alot of local knowledge of what side to go on and where the low spots are.
It's uncharted.
 
Dave.....when we where there we noticed quite a few larger boats docked across the canal at all the homes..... .....just saying
 
Just seeing them and knowing are different.
Maybe they only move at high tide.

Until I hear from someone, it's too risky to go down there, but it looks awesome!

Dave, planning to run the boat home from Montauk solo Sunday so if you want to go for a boat ride you are welcome to join me but the problem is getting out there and then having a car to get back.... I have plans Sunday afternoon so won't be able to drive out to retrieve your car.

Walter, thanks for the offer but actually on the train out to Montauk now. Fishing with friends tomorrow then will run the boat home Sunday morning.

Smuggler jacks looks great! Seems like a great place to watch sunday football too.. The question ia, how the heck do ai get there from Lindenhurst? Like Dave, I would appreciate local knowledge!

Rob - hope I didn't hijack your "bored" thread.

I plan to soak this weekend up for all its got. Probably not going to see another one like this until next season..
 
What an amazing weekend! I took boat to Smuggler Jacks today. Went in close to low tide - bad idea! Plenty of water 7' plus after entrance, but saw 2.5 feet or less first couple hundred feet of entrance. Kicked up a ton of mud. Don't think I touched but it was way too shallow. Went down canal and all slips are small - i would say less than 10' beams, probably less. Not an option for any larger boats, but could be a good spot for center console, or maybe run fast at mid to high tide.

While the destinantion did not work out, it was a really nice ride to Massapequa on a gorgeous late September Sunday.

For those of you heading to Watch Hill for Columbus Day weekend, I hope you get a weekend like this one!!

That area used to be my backyard. You have to hit that canal dead on, not on a angle and there will be plenty of water.

Many years ago there used to be a great deli there, would go there by boat all the time pick up some food before anchoring out

I was dead center going and coming - very, very shallow. And not just the entrance. It was shallow for the first 100 to 200 feet inside the canal. Then it was 7' plus the rest of the way.
