Here on the Sassafras ("fresh water"), I inadvertantly had a water hose in the water for a few weeks and am very concerned about the level of barnacles and slime attached to the hose. Has anyone heard of reason(s) why the fouling seems so much worse recently than in the past. More importantly, other than good bottom paint and regular use, what can be done to reduce the problem?

With the drought conditions that we have been having even the normally fresh water areas have been getting some salt water as the salt water has worked further up the bay than normal.
The solution? Rain and lots of it.
Most of the rivers feeding the Chesapeake have very low flows right now. The water authorities along the Potomac are worried they might not be able to maintain water supplies.

Jim,

I know the barnacles are real bad this year. Skipjack has been hauling boats the last month and cleaning bottoms because of issues people are having. I guess having a hot, dry summer has its drawbacks.

Hire a diver to clean the barnacals off yor running gear. If you have good bottom paint, the hull should be fine.

Glad I got my boat bottom painted before delivery.
