Bottom Growth

I'm in the chick which is normally very very mildly brackish. The last two years we've had barnicles due to a lack of rain the previous summers and no snow in the winters. I'm dreading a haulout.

A buddy used a newer style paint that's been on for a year. He dove his boat at a raft up a couple of weeks ago. Not one barnicle and barely a bit of slime. I need to find out what it was. Expensive at $200 per gallon plus application but I'll bet over the course of 3 years it's a wash when compared to the drag factor.

David, my boat came from MD, and was painted with Micron CSC just prior to purchase in June, 2012; the boat was hauled out Monday and the bottom looks great, no barnacles, except on the shafts, rudders, and props. And, there aren't that many, I just like to see clean running gear..

Maybe that paint will work for you?

Micron CSC or Micron Extra seem to work well in the Maryland area. I've got nothing at all on my bottom with Extra. True, $200/gallon, but I only re-paint about every 3 years or so.

Bruce - As John said, they'll scrape off, but they'll be a bit harder to fully get off since they're now dry. But at least you don't have to worry about scratching through your bottom paint or gel coat.
