Hi, I just purchased a used 2004 chaparral 310 with no bottom paint. I plan to use it in fresh water but will keep it in a marina slip. This is my first adventure with leaving a boat in the water I've heard of two (unconventional) ways of caring for the bottom of the boat. One is to use a product called mold release ( this is used in the fiberglass industry to aid in getting the fiberglass out of the mold). Has anyone ever tried this? The other one I read about is to use a coating of Lanolin. Anyone with any suggestions about these products I would like to hear from you. Thanks Tom
 
Niether one will protect your hull from blisters and to me, that's the reason for barrier coats and bottom paint for a boat left in the water all season.
 
Thanks, That's what I need to hear, being new to soaking a boat all year I need some input. How 'bout the drives, will lanolin be a help there? These are volvo's, any help with this? Thanks Tom
 
Are they Volvo Ocean Series? I haven't owned a boat with outdrives for awhile, but everything I'm told is that the Volvos aren't as likely to corrode as Mercs. I never put any anti-fouling paint on the drives when I had them but I used to get in the water and clean them every few weeks. Never really had a problem there.
 
My neighbors boat has the standard grey volvo duoprop. He was having problems with corrossion, so he put his boat on a lift. No need for bottom paint, barrier paint or corrossion protection with the boat on a lift. check out airdock.com
 
Unfortunately lifts are not allowed in the marina where I'll be staying this year. I wish I could put the money towards a lift as it makes sense to keep the boat high and dry. Tom
