Does anyone know off hand the deck hatch model that is on the late 80's 3207/3227 Carvers?

Mine is an '88 and she is starting to leak. The previous owners has done some caulking, but unfortunately I think it is the seal that is actualy leaking.

I am debating replacing the whole hatch.

Any thoughts, comments, or experience?

I plan to tear into it this weekend and see what I can come up with!
 
I have also contemplated changing out my rectangle port holes for white. I am still weighing the option of cost vs. practicality!
 
When mine started to leak I found that the splice in the gasket had come unglued. Cleaning and some caulk fixed it.
 
I have to do the same thing on my front hatch - been holding it together with a dark plastic garbage bag for two years now!!!

Well, at least it doesnt leak LOL...
 
I believe those were made by Grey now Bomar (Pompanette). I replaced mine with a Bomar 995 but if I did it again I would go with aluminum. Careful with the flange size as there is not a lot of room to play with due to the way the deck is molded. Using the existing size will avoid entering the cored deck and all those associated issues. Good luck.
 
I need new hatches also. Not sure of the similarities, but I have a 3257 (Montego 32'). I need all three hatches, my bow deck hatch plus small hatch in the head, and small hatch above the galley. All work fine, but one of the dogs is missing for complete lockdown of the galley hatch, and all are missing some of the handles to tighten into the 'open' or 'venting' position. I've installed wingnuts for now, but they can be difficult to manage. Also, original screen set-up is lousy. The Surveyor commented on how 'cheap' these hatches were, and I didn't weigh his comments very heavily at the time,...but he's right...they bug me. Would also like to install an Ocean Shade style screen and blind assembly.
 
I replaced all eight portlights on our 3207 last summer for about $70 each, Bomar/Pompanette purchased through Defender, fit perfectly. What a difference, the old ones were all a cracked broken mess. Next summer I'll have to do the bow hatch. It's doesn't leak (yet) but the previous owner cut away big chunks of the frame and even portions of the hinge and dog brackets to install a solar fan. Last time I opened the hatch one of the dogs just fell to the floor because the last piece of the dog bracket fell off. Anyway, thanks for this thread, good info, very helpful.
 
Did you replace the portholes with black again? I was thinking possibly white if they had them. I have not searched yet.
 
I just replaced the clear acrylic lenses, the windows themselves, not the frames. Odd, the frames were all tight and in good shape inside and out, no leaks at all, but every single old lens was cracked or broken in some way and foggy/cloudy. The galley portlight fell into the sink in little pieces when I loosened the dogs. Crystal clear new portlights made such a huge difference, made the boat feel bigger.

It took some very delicate surgery with those stinking hinge pins. Took two pairs of small needle nose vise grips, a very small mallet, and an ice pick with the point ground off to a blunt end to use as a drift pin. A third hand would have been helpful. Not easy but by the eighth window I was a pro with those hinge pins and springs and vise grips. I had one hinge pin go shooting out the open port and into the water, but miraculously Ace Hardware had an exact replacement, even in stainless steel like the original.
 
Just posted some of these hatches in question in the for sale section. I had them in my garage all along!
