I read this is the tech forum...I have a few questions...I numberd the steps in teh directions to correspond with the questions below the instructions...

1. When you first start it up, let it COMPLETELY warm up, not just kinda warm, all the way warm. Liquid cooled engines require that the engine be brought gradually to normal operating temperature to avoid cold seizure resulting from pistons expanding faster than the cylinder liner.

2. Allow 1 hour at idle speed only for break-in of new pistons or rings.

While it's still hot, check and see if the head needs to be retorqued.

Check the timing again, as well as the valve adjustment.

DO NOT RUN ENGINE AT CONSTANT RPM FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME.

3. After gradually bringing engine to normal operating temp., operate engine in gear at approx. 1500 RPM for 20 minutes.

4. Operate in gear at no more than 2000 RPM for the next 60 minutes.

5. Cruise at 3/4 throttle or less for the next 4 hours.

6. Occasionally reduce throttle to idle speed for a cooling period.

7. Use only enough throttle to plane your vessel and then throttle back to ~3000 RPM.

8. Avoid operating in the 2000-3000 RPM range at all times during the 10 hour break-in period.

9. • During the 6th hour of break-in, plane boat quickly and then throttle back to maintain minimum plane speed.

10. • During this 6th hour, you can throttle up to 3/4 throttle for 1-2 minutes, then return to minimum planing speed.

11.During the final hours of break-in you can operate at full throttle for periods of 2 minutes or less.

QUESTIONS

1. Should I let the boat warm up in neutral or should I just idle around (less then 1000rpms)? And also about how long should I do this till it is COMPLETELY WARM?

2. What? I thought you werent supposed to let it idle for anymore then 5-10 minutes in the first 20 hours? please explain...Is #2 only for rebuilt engines with just new pistons and rings?

3. So dont even get on plane? just lowly move the throttle till the engine RPMS are 1500 and just cruise around for 20 mins like that?....should I vary the throttle like go to 1600-1700 every 2-3 minutes and then sometimes back off to 1300-1400 rpms for a couple minutes and then get to 1500 rpms and do it all over agian?

4. So should I get on plane first or just slowly move the throttle to 1600 rpms then to 1700 rpms and so on but keep it at 2000rpms or less...and then vary it in between there every couple minutes right?

5. got it...no question there...

6. So I should take it completely off plane by Slowly lowering the throttle to idle and let the boat come off plane and then leave stick it in neutral? or leave it in drive and idle around for a couple minutes and then slowly get back up to 3/4 throttle..?

7. Is this part in with #4...? is 3/4 throttle 3000 rpms?

8. why do you avoid 2000-3000 rpms (2001-2999rpms I take it) ? so when I am varying rpms just take it down to 3000 and then back up to 3/4ths throttle every so often...

9 and 10. they kind of contradict 5...it says cruise at 3/4 throttle...is 3/4 throttle not 3500 rpms?

11. So you are saying when my hour meter hits 7 hours I can go full throttle for 1-2 minutes and then back it back down to 3/4 throttle and keep it like that till 20 hours and then get the 20 hour service and then run it how I would like?

thanks!
