I'm doing a little leg work for a friend who is considering trying out Brewer Glen Cove as their full-time home next season (the longstanding spot - not the newly acquired marina). There are a few random posts from a few years ago about the marina but I know a few of you are either there or have kept your boats there full-time and I'm hoping you may have more recent knowledge to add. Not looking for other recommendations please, just reviews of this place. The fact that there is not much to do in the immediate area is unimportant. He has a 50' motor yacht and is also considering winter storage there.

Thanks for your thoughts!

My uncle kept his yacht there for a few years and couldn't wait to get out of there. He absolutely hated the place.

Thanks. Mind telling me how recently that was?

i was there for about 5 years and was happy. however, they are not cheap. either for slips, maintenance, or repairs. that said, they have nice facilities, including a pool, new docks, etc., and they fix things right the first time.

two years ago we moved from brewers to a nearby boat club (the hempstead harbour club) to save money. one night we came back taking on significant water. the boat club couldn't haul us because their lift was being used. we got a hold of the brewers mgr at home. he came in and hauled our boat immediately, even though we were no longer his customers. he saved our bacon that night.

We're not with Brewers Glen Cove but moved from Huntington to Brewers Sterling Harbor this year and found a new home.

A few notes on what I’ve found which may be common with all Brewers yards
BTW: my boat is 50’ LOA

The slip at Brewers SH is the same cost as the one we had at a no frills marina in Huntington, its kept very clean and pool, restaurant, full staff etc.. we feel its like a mini resort- cant say this about all Brewers yards, I just don’t know

Staff is incredible and all speak English. Docks are kept like new as well as power/lighting etc. everything works and if something breaks they really fix it ASAP.- cant believe how I excepted such poor quality of service at my old yard(s)because I though ‘all yards were like that.’

If you keep your boat at a BYY all year you get a BYY Gold card that gives you 6 free nights of slip space at other Brewers yards- there are about 22 yards, most in lower New England- for a 50’ boat at $2 or $3.50 a foot per night- that’s a $600-$1.050 value
Plus 50% of nights after the 6 free. There are other discounts for Fuel etc…

I find that any repair costs/quotes have been in line with what I paid in Huntington and more important, repairs were made when promised and done right.
I was constantly jerked around at my past yard and if I did not grease someone ($) nothing got done when it was suppose to. There was always a sense of anxiety as to will the boat be taken care of when promised

Not that I don’t tip now, but its has not been required to get anything done like before. The people just do the right thing because it’s the right thing- this is priceless for a great boating experience.

It seems that they are truly concerned that your boat and your Family are ok

Thanks for all of the feedback. Abalmuth - all of what you cited has been my experience at the various Brewer yards I have stayed at which is why I encouraged my friend to look into their Glen Cove location. I haven't stayed there and there have been a few negative posts about them in the past, but Brewer has a good reputation for fixing what's broken. I had a particularly terrific experience at Sterling Harbor this summer and would make it my home port in an instant if I was in the area.

Thanks again. Any additional thoughts about Glen Cove are appreciated.

I've been at Brewers GC as a transient for 3 months as my home port is in MD.
As someone said it's expensive - it is the Gold Coast!
Mark, the GM, is a standup guy and runs a good yard.
If we decide to head north next year I have no qualms staying at BGC.
