Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for a broker to list our 47' Chris. We are on the upper Chessy. We're looking for someone who works for their 10%, not just a listing. If you prefer to not post to a public forum, I can be reached at froggy3k at hotmail.com.
Many thanks in advance!
Chris

froggy,

I've dealt with 3 brokers on the Upper Chesapeake. Good experience with 2 and very bad experience with 1. My best experience was with the broker that I thought I was taking the biggest risk with, Nautilus Yacht Sales in Georgetown (at Skipjack Cove) because they did not appear on the surface to be very big or aggressive. However, they had a buyer under contract 3 days after listing our Silverton and worked their butts off to close on the deal when the buyer was asking for concessions after the survey. The broker even got their hands dirty (literally) changing fuel filters when the buyer demanded it during the sea trial and eventually took $1K out of their commission to close the deal. The other broker was McDaniels in North East, MD. They eventually found a buyer and closed on our Carver when another broker failed to do squat for 18 months. I'll email you the details on that one.

We are presently dealing with Knot 10. Although it is a very new listing, we are very confident that they are the right ones. Their presentation, advertising, and general handling we feel was excellent. Note too their name--- not 10% commission, but 7%. This will make a great difference in the final numbers. Look at his listing for the 2004 35SY Maxum Sport Yacht with Diesel engines on Yacht World and other sites. We should be in this weeks centerfold of the Mariner with his color spread.

Heard good things for Knot 10. Whatever you do----stay away from Martin Associates, but if they did sell your boat, maybe they could pay me the 1/4 mil they owe me !

I'll third that.

I sent froggy a private email first thing about who not to use.

Sounds like Dusty has us all beat for screwjobs....must have been for one of their new trawlers.

I'm positive there's another person here with the same feelings.

That is downright impressive. I mean you have to work to get that bad of a reputation.

Many thanks for everyone who responded on and off line. It appears I know who to stay away from as that name keeps repeating. Dust, I wish you the best. Some people don't have any scruples. I did see the 'certain' evil people had a blurb about Schaeffer's open on the canal for fuel. I wonder if your 1/4 MM wasn't used for that. Maybe you can take ownership of Schaeffer’s and start a new career??

I'm probably going to go with Knot 10 as I spoke to Marc this past weekend (even answered while on vaca coming up the bay). Seems like a top notch setup. He's going to come out Tues and work out the details. I didn't want anyone too close to the boat as I want to be the one who opens it up and then closes after any showings. We are an older boat than what he is used to so we'll see.

I’ll update my experience when I have one.

Again, thanks all!!!!!!!!
Chris

Chris,

Best of luck & keep us posted.
BTW, where is Knot 10's office located?

Knot 10 is down somewhere near Baltimore (actually Finksburg, MD). He keeps his boat (40 something Regal) at Kent Island. He said he doesn't mind to travel. That's what I want. Pre qualify and a few hours for me to get to the boat to open it up and adjust lines for boarding.
Thx

froggy3k .... just curious, any luck with Knot 10?

LSP, the presentation and web presence is great. Had one showing but they were looking for something bigger to live aboard. They also did a PDF brochure that can be emailed out to prospective lookers. Hopefully after the Annapolis show there will be some more interest. I also get an update as to how many times it was accessed on the web.
Very professional so far.

Thanks ... I have a friend looking to change brokers
