Building Starfish 26... First sail!!

Looks great Pascal.

I wanted to show some family this thread from start to finish... but noticed a lot of your earlier pics are broken links.
Do you have the ability to re-link to them? I'd like them to see the each stage.

Wish I had the time and craftsmanship to undertake such a project myself.

We all take pride in our boats... I imagine that is doubly so when you actually build it yourself.

Went out for a first sail today in 10 to 12 kts and it all went well. Sailed for about 1 1/2 hours with a chase boat just in case. We towed out of the mooring field as I didn't want to take any chances and raised the sails after clearing the last boats. Heck I had no idea how she would handle!

Performed beautifully! We reached the hull speed of 6kts without even trying to trim or push. Helm is pretty balanced with a touch of weather helm (boat tends to turn upwind if you release the tiller, which makes it safe...). She tacks well and points pretty well too. The self tacking jib works as expected making tacking just a matter of turning the boat... No line to mess with. The long keel makes her track well with very little sliding even when pinching upwind

Had a bit of fun sailing thru the mooring field to get a good feel for the handling, very maneuverable.

Quiet a bit a work left with some finishing, the cabin, plumbing etc but at least we can start enjoying her!

WOW!!!!!!! Absolutely beautiful. Looks like it would be right at home in Newport ... or anywhere. Truly a classic!
 
Looks great under sail too! Is she still a little light on ballast?
 
A little light, about 2000lbs in right now plus 500 lbs of battery but she turned out a little lighter than expected. Going to wait till the interior is done, head, etc to see if we put more
 
How is heeling stability? It seems a cheeky hull so the form stability may be sufficient.
Consider sailing for a while before permanently adding ballast or perhaps adding it temporarily.
 
Did the champagne stay chilled enough in it's dedicated compartment? :D

Yes the cooler works well, especially the smaller one that serves as a drink drink holder. Nice to put your drink down and keep it cool while it can't spill...

Went out again for a short while yesterday afternoon, winds were light at about 5 to 6 kts but she was moving along nicely, tacking very well. The full keel makes her track well out of a tack.
 
I think the ensign should be flown from the gaff.
