New to the area and wanting to head to Caldesi Island. Anyone know of a good area to beach the boat and get out?

it's a 20' bowrider.

thanks,
Ro

Probably anywhere except the marked off area where the swimmers are by the beach equipment shed. Best area is likely at the north end near the pass.

I would go in to the marina and walk over. Stop by the little cafe on the island and get a hot dog

do you have to reserve a spot at the marina or can you just pull in?

what about dogs, are they allowed on the beach areas?

Marina is first come first serve.

No pets on the beach.

I understand you can make reservations for a dock slip for an overnight or weekend stay. There are only a few slips that have electric hook up.

They have electric at all the slips now. I would beach at the north end near the channel. You'll have to approach this area from the gulf side because the have a power boat restriction all along the ICW side of the island. There are also good places to beach along the causeway but that kind of takes the fun out of the trip.

If you get a slip, I think we paid $14 (or maybe $20 - can't recall) per night we were there. They only give you a single 30A connection to use and will ask you to remove a second line even if the next slip is empty. I have since bought a 30A to 30A splitter for out visits here.

thanks guys, hopefully we can make it out there this weekend.
appreciate all the help and insights.

Rob

Saturday will will have 15 knots of wind from the SE. Sunday will have 20 knots of wind from the SW and a 60% chance of a thunderstorm. Both of these days will keep you from beaching on this island.

Your best bet will be to go into the cove and grab a slip, then walk out past the restroom and showers to the beach.

My favorite beach day planning tool: http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/wfo/sectors/tbwMarineDay.php

yes you can reserve slips thru reserve america.

skeet -- next time back at a 45 degree angle between two slips, swear that is the only way you can fit and rent both slip.....you get both shore powers that way...or take a t-dock

Yeah Joe, I had to grease the finger pier and center pole to get in the slip the first time. The only slip I ever found tighter than that was in Tarpon Springs at the municipal docks. I have a 13'6" beam going into a 14' wide slip. Next time I'll take the T-dock. Will be up there in a week or so.

try the ones at indian rocks holiday inn....i did not have to uses lines to keep the boat from moving left and right....just one holding it from backing inot the dock and one to keep it from floating away...i could not even put fenders out.

hey, I tied my bow to the boat next to me last time I was at Indian Rocks. There was no way for meto keep my bow from swinging in the breeze unless I used his boat and vise a versa! We just fit in there too with inches to spare! If you back in too far you can touch bottom at low tide!
