California Drought Pics

Bidwell Marina is where I had my last boat. Even when it's this bad, there are still some fantastic places to go and drop the hook and there's nobody else around. I think Oroville's down about 250+ feet by now, still 650 left in the main body. 185 miles of shoreline at full pool.

The admiral...and my current boat... are in Redding, six miles from Shasta. Not sure how far down, but with 365 miles of shoreline there's still a lot of lake left.
 
Two days ago there was a great program on Water, basically on droughts.
Unfortunately the computer modules (SWAG by Computer) portend a great many more droughts in the near future.

Cal had the Pacific, where they can get a big De-sal plant going.

The Ogallala Aquifer under Nebraska down to Texas is drying up too.
They claim we are taking out more than is being replaced by natural Rain/Snow falls. So that area will be next to shut down some farming in order to have drinking water.
I think I'll invest in Desalination products!
 
The drying up of aquifers is also having another side effect of land sinking (known as subsidence).
This along with the glacial melt causing sea levels to rise is contributing to some serious flooding along coastal areas.

If this is indeed a long term trend, we are in for some potentially bad times.
In the short term however Thudpucker may be on to something as I've seen a article on investing to make money on the water shortage, I'll see if I can find that article.

In South Aus. I forget which city, they already have a grandiose De-Sal project going. It's said the South AUS will never have to worry about drinking water again.

However, whether sea levels are rising or ice caps are melting, I don't think it will change the drought picture in the southwestern or central United States

There are three problems buying into your argument rtribble. One, there is too much, way too much evidence of results tampering. Two, the only big money available to scientists is in proving climate change, not dis-proving it. Three, there is too much upside for fascists in climate change in the form of taxes and crony capitalism.

I am willing to bet if you set up two studies, equally funded, one saying yes, the other saying no with the promise of follow on money you could get opposing views.

Until there are "clean hands" I'm not buying it.

We've beat this dead horse to complete ad-nauseam in the past and I see no need to pursue it further, kinda like pissing into the wind.
Believe what you wish and I shall do likewise. I'm not trying to convince anyone any way or the other, they can research and draw their own conclusions when it comes to climate change/global warming/another ice age or whatever.
But whatever the cause, the current drought is a very serious problem for those effected and the future doesn't look too incouraging.

Yes, the "current" drought is serious, because, there has never been a serious drought before, nor a serious flood. These things totally kill the future of anybody and they will never recover.

If you were pissing in the wind, you would only be getting yourself wet. As it is your position affects everyone, unless you are willing to stop voting which is about as likely as you giving up your hypocritical pentiant for burning fuel and creating green house gasses for no other reason than to ride around in a boat for recreational purposes while lecturing us on "climate change".
