Hello, everyone. Let me begin by saying that most (if not all) of my boating problems have been solved by participating in this forum. It's a great resource.

I'm currently having a problem with my VHF, a Standard Horizon installed approx 6 years ago, have had no problems.

The other day out on the ocean, I smelled some smoke of the electrical variety and noticed that my VHF no longer produced sound. It was not connected to an external speaker.

However, the unit does continue to produce static and some voice activity when you get really close to it.

I've encountered this with stereos as a younger man (too much Ted Nugent, I guess) and it was a blown speaker.

Any opinions appreciated.

Thanx,
JTP
