Wrong tine of year. You can get some pretty flat seas in the Fall. There are some 50mi stretches with no access to land along the Ca coast. I hear there are some passages all along the western Can and eastern alaska that you have to catch the tides just right.
 
Charlie...they are canoeing the inland waterways not the Pacific Coast Line.

i have an article here in popular science from the early 50s of a guy doing the great loop in a canoe with 2hp motor and a pup tent really neat story
