Canvas

Everyone here raves about Harry Parker but overall for years I have heard very bad things about Patino. I suppose everyone could be off sometimes and maybe I got Harry on one of those off days because quite honestly even though he is highly recommended, he did such poor work on my front & side panels that I would not let him do my canvas replacement if he offered to do it for free.

Judy, Patino did my canvas and my seats. He did a great job on the canvas, the seats were another story altogether - he had to re-do them 3 times.

I would have no qualms about using him for my canvas again.

After a lot back & forth we decided to give the work to Patino. Really caught off guard w/ replacing canvas..had no plans of doing so until next year. Work to do on house this year..house takes precedence over boat/canvas but canvas giving out blindsided us. Talked w/ John of my price concern & he worked with me on that. Not giving the job away mind you but enough so I feel more confident I am getting a fair price. In my own world I have given many of my clients price breaks this year...and even given some product at cost so they would not have to cancel scheduled community events. I think that is what you have to do in this financial climate. So I am happy to see that he also recognizes that. When my front panel blew out Saturday he took the panel back to his shop & jimmy rigged it to hold out until I could get it replaced. It was threatening to rain any second & boat gets wet even with the panels in place, w/o the panel, BIG MESS. He had it back on my boat a short time later before the rain. Did not charge me.

So, I've seen a lot of his work, he has shown me exactly how he will redesign my new canvas, guarantees my cockpit will not have water intusion issues anymore, assures me the job will run on time & has given me a price I can live with. So far a good experience. He will start work around mid May.

Judy;

Stay on top of him. My work was to be completed by March 1st. I'll let you know when it's complete.

Schedules and promises were both meant to be broken.

That's one of Patino's and quite frankly just about every canvas person I have ever used except for Parker. They rarely if ever deliver on time. They all seem to promise things faster then they ever can deliver.

It really is a shame you had a bad experience with Harry Parker Judy. Your experience is truly an exception to the rule.

I sure will Pete. He said he expects it to take two weeks so that is the time frame I will expect completion by...especially if my boat is uncovered as I do not have a cargo cover. I will not make the same mistake I made with Parker..he wanted payment before I put the panels on my boat (it was an over winter job). By spring when I put them on & realized they did not come close to fitting (we actually thought they were someone elses panels he mistakenly gave to us)there was not much I could do about it. I won't do that again. Although in fairness to John, he actually said he did not want full payment until the job was complete & we were happy with it.

I know John, I am the exception to the Harry Parker rule, but he really did do a horrible job, feel free to come over & see it, I am at Pennybridge now..the infamous B dock! Not only did the panels Parker made not fit, he screwed up the rest of my canvas trying to force them to fit. The front panel was too short..it was about an inch & a half short of the snaps on top of the windshield. At first he tried to shmooz me into the old "it's cold out" BS. Well it wasn't cold in mid July & they were no closer to fitting even with three people pulling on them. Had the same problem with side panels..he had to extend them, which he did. To try to "fix" the front panels he pulled the bimini way forward & knoted the bimini straps to shorten them & hold it there. In doing this now the back canvas did not snap properly anymore, the sides which he had fixed did not fit again........and the front panel still did not fit! Nothing on my boat fits correctly now & my water problem is worse than ever. The knots he made in the straps cannot be undone because they are so tight from the stress on them & at that point I was so disgusted I did not want to spend another nickel replacing anything. I don't know why my experience was so bad but it sure was. The only time I was able to snap that front panel in three years was last spring when Patino hit with his heat gun. Now I can understand that in April..but June, July & August???

Then again, lot's of people laugh about Tony (Air Gen). Heard a lot of unhappy Tony customers too....but he has done work for me a few times. Always did a very nice job. Never had to bring him back twice, always completed the work in what I felt was a timely manner AND always left my boat clean! So, I'm really hoping to have the same experience with John.

Now you've done it Judy!

Bringing Mr. "izzzttss a winnnttteeerrr job" into the mix. Personally I like Tony a lot. Always enjoyed working with him. My biggest issue with Tony is the last few times I've called him to give him some work he's told me I could do the work myself and didn't need him! Sure I feel great he think's so highly of my abilities but it amazes me he would turn down what were easy jobs. I do pride myself in my ability to do most of my own repairs but when a service guy turns me away because "your good enough to do it yourself" I have to wonder...
