1991 Bayliner 3058 with twin 4.3L V-6's, carbeurated, about 150 hours on two remanufactured engines. I've run the boat 20 hours already this spring. Just last week had the spring service done, oil changed and fuel filter changes, outdrive lube service, etc... starts immediately, idles well in various conditions.
Took the girls out to one of our favorite marinas for lunch today, about 1.5 hour run. Everything purring along, both engines good temp, both reach 4500@WOT, cruises well 3500-3900rpm, idles well at several sightseeing places along the way.
UNTIL, I pull into our destination marina and port begins to choke at idle, pulling up to the visitor dock. Runs well at 1500rpm to 3500 rpm dockside, but will begin to stall at idle. After ice creams dockside, stbd fires right up, port won't start. It seems to be a fuel issue, since it cranks great, no water in the oil. So I look at the carb, and I'm seeing a steady drip of fuel into the port carb, about a drip a second, maybe more frequent. It appears something is stuck open and flooding the carb. I increase the throttle during cranking and she fires right up, did great at 3400-3800 for the 1.5 hour home, but in and around our marina I get the same issue, as if it's flooding itself. Comparing the flow port and stbd it is clear that the port carb is behaving differently.
At the dock I still see the same issue, even after the engine is off... a steady drip drip drip into the port carb, stbd nothing. After five minutes (of me nervously wondering if I'm eventually going to fill my bilge with gas) it stops.
It seems like this should be an easy fix... what is my problem and how best to fix it?
