Topped off the tanks, pumped out and headed out the bay to the lake. Boat ran just great
, the stuffing boxes are finally dialed in so they don't leak or get hot.Headed back in through the channel, no problem. Now across the bay on plane, came off plane a quarter mile from my mooring, to about 1500 RPM and noticed the starboard engine was running extremely rough all of a sudden. I cut both throttles to idle and it quit immediately. Hit the key once and realized it was futile.
Brisk crosswind but managed a clean landing first attempt with just the port screw; guess the practice paid off.
I opened the hatch once the lines were secured and saw a couple of small puddles of gasoline laying on the intake manifold. Popped the flame arrestor and witnessed some gasoline dribbling in from the jets as though the bowl was over filling.
So my guess is, the float stuck. I took it apart tonight, saw a little sludge under the float but can not account for the sticking. I lowered the float level a bit, cleaned everything and assembled. Will see what happens tomorrow when I try it. The darn thing ran great, I just don't get it [:-boggled], fuel filter was clean as well.
Edit!! I found a water pump problem while tuning the carb (hotter than normal exhaust manifolds) thanks to the stuck float. Now if I can find that last piece of missing pump impeller she should be all set. The pump must have had just enough left in it to prevent overheating as the gauge never went above 140 degrees.
