We've had a Caribe on davits for 8 years. Now we are selling that boat and getting one with a swim platform and walk through transom (Freedom 35). We've not liked davits: it takes alot of time and strength to haul the dink up, when heeled way over we've gotten torque on the dink and cracked the fiberglass where the davits meet the boat, we've always worried that a huge following sea would fill the dink with water and then God knows what would happen.
We have occasionally seen a dink lying on its side on the swim platform of a boat and think this would be great. But how does that work?
I saw a comment in a previous post about Weaver snap brackets. Is that the trick? We want a really light dink and were thinking of one of those rigid ones with an inflatabale collar.
I also say something called a Dinghy Tow which looked good and interest but might slow things down a bit. We are recovering racers and hate the thought of any drag.
All thoughts and suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Regards, Faith
