After spending the last two weekends scrubbing the black crap off or my nonslip in the cockpit (or as much as possible), and throwing the carpet in the garbage, I am working on new carpet with a quality backing. That black hexagon backed carpet is good for a year or two then it is done!

For the other Montego owners, where are your seam lines in the cockpit? Do they line up with the main hatch or off to the side to line up with the rear seat supports? I want to do 3 individual pieces for ease of maintenance and cleaning, but not sure if I should go on the line of out 4" on each side to avoid cutouts for the p&s seat supports.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

I made mine one piece, no seams. Had to roll it up to do engine maintenance but it looked and worked great.

We have the one large piece of carpet as well, it looks good but it is some what difficult to get up when you need to access the engine compartment

While I am sure the one piece is cosmetically pleasing, do you have any safety concerns with managing such a large piece to get to the ER if there is an issue below deck?

Jim

Jim,

I had no issues. I would just unsnap the snaps and roll it up towards the helm. The transom seat was a bigger PITA to deal with during maintenance than the carpet was.
