I am in the process of doing a few projects on the cockpit wetbar on my 32 Montego. I am installing a sidebar liquor dispenser, hard wired lighting, and redoing the counter top. When dismantling the counter top, I discovered a storage box molded in to the fiberglass surface below the plywood counter top. This is to the right of the sink. Does anyone have this or know what it was for and why it is not used? My only guess is that it may have been a location for a blender base since that's the only way a blender would fit in there. I am going to incorporate it into the new design for storing bar accessories but was just wondering if anyone had this on theirs.

Thanks,

Jim

5/2: After getting frustrated trying to find a replacement sink and/or drain, I decided to look in a few of my food service supply books. As it turns out, the sink on the 32 Montego wet bar is a water filling sink made for restaurants. It is a fisher model 1403 in case anyone needs to replace theirs. Here's a link to the manufacturer:

found a couple on ebay!

Jim,
If you are refering to the countertop in the salon, it was for the blender that is no longer made.

No, this is in the cockpit. I looked around and found this picture from a 1987. Looks like they just covered it over in later years but does not make sense to me as it is a great size for straws, stirrers, bottle openers, etc.

I am going to try to remove the glue on the fiberglass this weekend and see if I can get the surface shined up. If not, I will make a hole in the plywood that was originally covering the fiberglass.

Thanks,

Jim

Carver did at one time offer a built in blender as an option, not sure if it was part of the cockpit bar though.

You never know what you'll find if you mess around in your boat long enough!

Well, I spent a good part of the day removing the adhesive that kept the counter top on the fiberglass. It was some sort of mastic I believe. I tried everything and finally found that acetone and a coarse rag worked well. Spilled it on my leg and have a nice red mark now! It all came off and I have decided to keep it this way. I was going to replace the laminate, but want the storage compartment so the laminate is out.

I bought a bamboo cutting board and will cut that down to fit as a lid/garnish prep board. I went to a marine store and got some LED lights that were crap. I happen to go to the auto parts store and they had these flexible/trimable strips that were, get this, half the price, and designed for exterior applications. I hard wired four of these in with a switch and now the bar lights up nice and bright. I also got the sidebar liquor dispenser installed today and will test it out next weekend.

My only regret is that I did not replace the mirrors while I had it ripped apart. They are acrylic and have some battle wounds, but I can do that next winter.

Once I get the bamboo cut and fitted, I will post a couple pictures.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get one of those tiny little sinks, I would love to replace that. Doubtful they are still available though. It is only 9x7 and a few inches deep.

I think it's just a bar sink Jim...try at Home Depot or Lowes, or a place that specializes in bars :-)

I had installed an automatic push button bar into my countertop that was fastantic. It's called Super side bar you can Google it up?

I had to install mine in the flush mount position (no spout) because of limited room. But that's the one!

Hey Jim...do you dock your boat at Port Side on Kelleys? I was there last Saturday night and thought I saw your boat...no one around though it looked open.

Yes I do. It had been named "Thirstin' Howell III" and is on "A" dock right now. Feel free to stop by sometime. It's still a mess and I have projects incomplete, but plan to get alot done this weekend.

Jim

Jim, We plan on spending a weekend at Portside this summer...will definately get in touch with you!
